my go-to makeup this fall

Colder days are here! I am very much excited to play with makeup (without the sweat) because I can be lazy AF on hot, humid days. I was given a foundation to try on by a good friend of mine that led me to go ahead and update my makeup stash. Currently these are my go-to products.

These are the ones I reach out for. From left: L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Lips Nude Allude (314), Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup in 2W0 Warm Vanilla, YSL Black Opium, Mac powder blush in mocha, L’Oreal Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick 232 Beige Couture, Becca Macaron Glow Kit, Hourglass ambient lighting powder blush in Diffused heat, Happy Skin X Love Marie Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippie in Skinny dipping

On lipsticks I recently tend to go for the subtle warm color, as it less hassle to maintain thoughout the day. So its mostly MLBB shades with a bit of warm brown. As for the Estée Lauder foundation that was gifted to me, I love how lightweight it is on my skin! I blend it with a beautyblender and its good to go. For the blush, I now favor the classic Mac powder blush in mocha that lends a subtle color to the cheeks and I top it off with Hourglass diffused heat.

Since I am new to highlighters, and honestly a bit afraid to try it out. I worry that it might make my oily skin look greasy. So I decided to get the Becca macaron kit to try using a highlighter, thankfully it did not add to the oily-ness look. I usually go for the shade Opal, I apply this with a light hand and using a fan brush.. it leaves a soft glow on my skin. This makes me look rested and healthy.

For fragrance I am back to using Ysl Black Opium as it is a very cozy scent. Hopefully this weekend I get to sort out my fragrances, keep the summery ones in favor of the heavier, cold weather appropriate ones that I adore!

I just need to add hunt for a few more things to my closet and I am ready for the holidays!

wipeout

We in Manila can breathe a sigh of relief that tropical storm Mangkhut (Ompong) Typhoon is already over. With its powerful winds and sudden rushes of rain, causing havoc to the city traffic and flooding on some areas, it is quite frightening to think of how our situation is going to be if we were in the direct path of the storm.

Typhoon Mangkhut -its a huge one. -Photo taken from the internet

Some of our friends are not so lucky. We have a friend who has an agriculture business up in Baguio. He is in Manila to get married. The good thing is that he is getting married in Manila, therefore safer than when he is in Baguio. The wedding went well.  The bad is after the wedding, there will be the aftermath of the storm on his crops and a ton of cleanup work waiting for him back home. There is also the matter of lost income.

Meanwhile it is given that all our produce will be marked twice the price due to scarcity. Canned food will be the usual food up until we get new crops from local farms or get fresh imports.

We all have encountered typhoon and all but lately the sudden births of super typhoons are alarming. I believe the phenomenon has a lot to do with global warming. There are also earthquakes and storm surge to worry about each time there is a typhoon. It’s a scary time we are living in.

asian representation

I have been on a “Asian phase” in my viewing habits this past holiday weekend. I have seen Crazy rich Asians on the movies, also watched To all the boys I loved before and is currently watching Kim’s convenience on Netflix. And it was glorious. I could totally relate.

check, check and check!

For the record, I have the (books) trilogy of the Crazy rich Asians, also the same goes for To all the boys I loved before.

It was good to have these, since it has been a while since Fresh off the boat. I do however associate Constance Wu to her role Jessica Huang (Fresh off the boat) a bit too much that seeing her as Rachel Chu (Crazy rich Asians) reminds me of Jessica Huang. -but maybe that is just me.

this show gave me a lot of laughs

Since I am not really that much immersed in Chinese culture and tradition and has adapted a more “modern and eclectic mix” of thinking,  I find these shows mirror real life instances and feelings of me and my friends accurately. Watching these shows are like a slice of life as it hits so close to home with the general Asian values of frugality, filial piety, and the occasional family feuds driven by competitiveness. I just wish they keep on coming with Asian shows like these.

For now, I am going back to my Netflix maraton watching Kim’s convenience.

well, I am DIY-ing my beads

While I wanted to add colored metal to my Pandora bracelet, I cannot shell out 9k plus for just one (1) solid gold Pandora spacer. Its just ridiculous.

taken from Pandora’s website

I really like the twisted design though… and I wanted it in solid gold. Not like the new gold plated beads (Pandora Shine) that Pandora recently introduced.

So, after some thought, I had a pair of gold spacers custom made. It took quite some time for trial and error, because I had one made and used it to cast the other.  I also used the old gold of my childhood earring to be recycled to add to my spacers.

my childhood earrings

While it is NOT from Pandora. I got good value for my money. Because instead of the initial plan of getting the spacers in 14k I had it made into 18K. And got the (2) pair for the price of 14,500php! -kind of like getting one 18k gold spacer for 7,250php that is still cheaper than one 14k spacer from Pandora. Its a good deal. And for the reveal… here are my custom made 18k solid gold spacers!  They might look small, but surprisingly they have a feel of weight to it.

My 18k gold twist spacers

So why did I choose to get 18k?

Gold is measured in karats. This unit of measurement tells us the percentage of gold in a piece. 18K gold (which is 75% gold) is the traditional mix of gold and other alloys, and it lends itself to making beautiful jewelry. This karat amount is less expensive than 24K but is very commonly used in fine jewelry making. Its coloring is a softer yellow than the deeper yellow of 24 karat, but the soft golden tone of the 18k is much more desirable in comparison to the paler 14K coloring.

To demonstrate the color here is a photo of 14k and 18k.

see the color difference?

The most common type of gold used in jewelry in the U.S. is 14K and it was created to make a gold piece more affordable, at the expense of having less gold. This karat amount contains 58.3% gold, and similar to 18K, its strength is a good fit for rings and bracelets to necklaces and earrings.  14K was selected for a simple reason though… it is because it is just over half gold.  In addition to less gold and a smaller price, 14K tends to have less of a yellow color relative to 18K or higher.

Here is another photo in a different light.

On hand – the 14k pales in comparison to the 18k spacer.

And the beauty of getting solid gold is that should I get tired of the spacers I could get it melted and made into another trinket.

My bracelet is now looking a bit put together and is now obviously looking two toned! I still haven’t decided if I am going to get clips. But right now I am pretty pleased with how it looks. I might add another pair of spacers once I decided if I wanted gold or go with rose gold for variation. I am very much indecisive, I know! If I could I would get all the stuff I like. I am limited only because I have budget to consider. Hahahaha! Help me decide?

two toned and loving it!

After all I still have a lot of room to spare on my bracelet. What do you think of my custom made spacers? Let me know your thoughts.

one lovely bunny

I own a gifted Pandora bracelet and charms and is very much happy with it. But on the last day of February, I knew that my bracelet would not be limited to Pandora charms only, because I saw this (post from marthnickbeads) -limited edition, bead of the month from Ohm beads.

Ohm beads- Bunny Angel

It was the Bunny Angel. It was really cute and a fitting memorial for my beloved bunnies. Instinctively, I went to order one for myself hoping that I could still get one as Ohm bead’s limited ones tend to sell out fast! They are only making 2222 of these charms and I have to wait for their release day that was on March 2 to order. I just placed an order and waited.

Exactly Easter Sunday I get a message that the my bunny angel is now in the Philippines! Of course I had to wait a few more days for it to arrive home.

I got bunny angel with the serial#DJP879/2222 from Denmark that went to Australia and finally to Philippines – This bunny sure traveled quite a distance to get here.  And it came with a Perlen candy in tow along with a certificate of authenticity that bears the serial number.

Safely home! My Ohm bead -Bunny Angel

True to their promise the Ohm bead fits in my Pandora bracelet with quite a lot of room to spare. I do notice that the Ohm bead is quite lighter in weight than a Pandora charm. It does however have a lot of detail (Just look at those beautiful wings and he also has a cute little halo to match!) than that of Pandora’s charms. I am also impressed that the bunny angel is serialized and engraved with an individual code. That attention to detail is just amazing.

Not bad for my first Ohm bead. It was well worth the wait.

break is over

So it’s back to reality for us all as the summer break was over. I find it a bit sad that the summer break has gone by so fast…time sure goes by fast when you are having fun.

I spent some time with family and siblings. Went to an old swimming place, and also Kei and I had gone on a staycation at the hotel that we are most familiar with-AG New World hotel. I spent afternoons on the pool, so it was a good thing that I got some swimsuits.

Though we did not really plan ahead for the summer break, it ended up well. It was probably one of the most restful summer break I had.

After the staycation, we went to the mall because Kei wanted to see a movie, it was a toss up between Pacific Rim and Ready Player One. He ended up picking Ready Player One and it was a good one!

Ready Player One -photo taken from the internet

It made me think about the what ifs –since we have (a relatively new and crude) virtual reality now-that will surely improve over the years, crypto currencies, and same as the movie… there are lesser and lesser greeneries/gardens and more highly populated urban cities, many people chose to avoid their problems and escape the harsh realities of life. (thru gaming addiction or other addictions…) So maybe this is like a cautionary tale for us all. I’d say go see it if you have the time.

How did your summer break go?

last minute swimsuit

I was procrastinating on getting a new swimsuit for this summer season. Mainly because I am not going to the beach or anywhere unique this holy week. I intended to use my old swimwear because it is still ok, never mind that its style was already out of the fashion circulation. (It was an old style from Speedo’s endurance line. It  resembles a cropped  sando and boy leg shorts combo, kind of what beach volleyball teams wear.)  Sayang naman kasi. –it would be a waste if I will not use it till it gives up on me right?

So I just let it be. Till I went to search for my suits in the drawer and find out that the fabric has already discolored on my favorite one-it is still usable if I don’t mind the discoloration, I tried my (other) newer swimsuit if it was viable (This one is a bikini) and the elastic has already crumbled. So much for using it again.

I tried to look for swimsuits online, but since its already too close to holy week, they cannot promise that the item would arrive in time. It’s off to the mall I go. I am on a hunt for something affordable because I only use my swim wear once or maybe twice a year. I took quite a while in trying to find a swim suit that is flattering to my body type as well.

I had a hard time looking for something that I want. Because what I want is something that looks like my favorite and very much outdated swimsuit. I tried on seven suits! And ended up getting one from Sassa. It was the Bohemian dream (boy leg set). It says boyleg but I think the better term for it is a high waist. As it effectively hides my tummy!

Bohemian Dream – its neon pink meets powder blue in an Atzec style print

For only 799 I think it’s quite a bargain! It also comes with a srunchie to match. *If ever you are in the same pinch as I am, go and try out the swimsuits at the department store!*

And I can get more coverage if I top it with my trusty Speedo women’s boyleg  shorts. I have it in navy.

My trusty old shorts from Speedo

I also encountered a nice find that I cannot pass up, as it can pair with my speedo shorts! I got a Quintsoul bikini top at retail lab, for 450. By matching it to my navy shorts I have “created” another set.  Not bad for a last minute purchase right? *Buying just the top or bottom? Its ok. Mix and match also works too! just keep in mind that the colors you picked out work well together.*

Oh, I also got cute floral/paisley printed Brazilea flip flops to wear.

I am ready to hit the water!
