the three-zero, Kei’s #epicthiry

Kei and I attended Christian and Beya’s wedding last Oct 26, 2014. Despite all the rush, long distance and time constraints we thought they had a nice wedding.

That got me thinking/sort of worrying for when it is our turn. What would our wedding be like?

And the day after we attended the wedding, Kei celebrated a milestone in his life. He turned 30.

I was very much excited! Much more than Kei himself who doesn’t usually celebrate his birthdays. (His family is not big on birthdays.) So, I made some teasers for his #epicthirty based on BBC’s Sherlock Holmes series that he likes. In hopes that he will be anticipating his birthday, not dreading the day he turns three-zero!

And because I wanted the day to be special, I crafted a “Man Bouquet” (male counterpart of a flower bouquet) for him! It turned out pretty awesome! The mix included Chivas Regal, Jack Daniels, Johnnie Walker and ferrero rocher chocolates.

Kei's Man Bouquet - the mix includes chocolates and liquor. I must say I’m awesome at creating this!

I also planned a whole day of activities for him. (I always do.) This time around I came up with a English/Sherlock / Jack Daniel’s label as design inspiration. He had a manly barberdashery experience, a European lunch, afternoon tea and Steak and oysters for dinner. To make it personalized, I custom made a placemat for him with the activities listed on it.

He had a grand time. He is now thirty and happy. Mission accomplished for me. I am happy too.

October is done. With that I leave you with a Happy Halloween y’all!

crafting with a heart

I have been busy for the past week.

Been busy crafting for a church friend’s  surprise bridal shower. Since I don’t really cook that much I offered to help with decorations. This is my first attempt at event styling.

me and my crafts

me and the D.I.Y. decor I made

Origami paper flowers made from cartolina, a banner I designed in adobe photoshop and printed on paper, a ribbon sash. And the best of all a “scrapboard” of their best photos.

My friend/s loved it! I’m pleased that they liked the results! All those time folding/cutting paper was worth it!

Looking forward to the said friend’s wedding this coming Sunday!

But I’m still going to have to craft for Kei’s Day. So, Im going to do more crafts for his birthday. This birthday is a milestone. Kei is going to be 30 this coming Monday!

I picked up some supplies and will be crafting on my free time.

Cheers to the weekend!

electric blue eyes: playing with Etude Play 101 pencils

Being an artist, I absolutely love color pencils (ever since I got hold of them). And I always had a thing for glitter. Combine those two and I am sold. This time, I got three! My latest loot are three of the play 101 (eye) pencils from the Korean brand Etude House.

There are 50 shades of these pencils, and they have different uses. These pencils can act as a concealer, a blusher, use it for contouring, as an eyeliner, color your eyebrows with it, use it as an eye shadow, highlighter or lip color.

PLAY

So, now for the review my new color pencils. I got numbers 28, 36, and 48. I got these shades, as I was actually inspired by the cool Chanel resort 2014 make up and wanted to make my own version of it.

I wanted something like that but subtler and more wearable.

So here the pencils are swatched on my skin. (I am a nc20-25 for reference)

Told you I love glitter.

Told you I love glitter.

These pencils are creamy! And very pigmented. To emulate the look and make it softer I opted to use brown instead of a black (so this will still be appropriate for a fun daytime look), the blue goes under the eye, and the pale pink on the inner corners of the eyes to get the eyes to look brighter.

I then finished the look with a pale pink lip color.

I loved the pencils! They were portable and easy to use. they also come with a sharpener! The colors stayed in place, no smudging on me. My only gripe was, it is a pain to take it all off. I washed/wiped it off, twice but I still had remnants of the eyeliner on my eyes the next day.

*Price? 348php per pencil. But I got mine for less as I got my best friend to get these for me during her recent trip to Korea.

I may have emotional attachment to shoes

As I reached for the shoebox and pulled out the shoe inside, my heart sank. My favorite party shoe has split apart.

It is a Qupid studded tapue wedge shoe that I had since December of 2009. Yes. It has survived that long.

Worn only when I attend parties and kept in the shoebox right after. I love this shoe! It instantly adds a punch to any of my outfits, and kept me looking taller than I really am. Added bonus, it’s a wedge! I saved up my allowance for this beauty. At that time if I remember correctly I got it for around 3k. Plus a month of waiting for it to be shipped to the Philippines.

I was planning to wear it for another happy occasion. But it was already gone.

Packed my beloved shoe and planned to get it repaired. I still wanted to save it, I want it back!

As I was wandering at the mall, I saw the sale sign at Aldo. Thinking that they usually have pretty shiny accessories there, I sauntered to their accessories. Yes, they are on sale but they don’t have anything to my liking at that time.

I glanced around the store and looked at their shoes. Before me was this stunner.

aldoRALEVIA

Found myself trying the shoe. It is on sale. From its original price of almost 4k, it is now down to 2k.

I like the shoe, it fits and it looks good on my feet!

This could work as a party shoe, I thought. Sold. I got the shoes.

Loved my new shoe! Got a nice spot for it on my shoe rack. Then immediately felt sorry for my old shoe. I spent the money on the new one. When I sort of promised my old shoe that it would be restored to life.

Now do I save my old shoe or throw it away?

Ever had an emotional attachment to (your) shoes? Or I’m just plain weird.

stumped about beddings

I love looking at people’s houses. Usually looking at them and mentally taking note of what looks good and not. I haunt desire to inspire, keep home simple, creativity exchange and house diaries daily. I read them as I have my breakfast.

Secretly hoping that one day I get to create a home like those I see. So, I have pinned pictures of my home inspirations! (Feel free to look at it and follow me on pinterest!)

Most of my 'home' pins feature neutral colors.

Most of my ‘home board’ pins feature neutral colors.

While talking to my Aunt Karen (my mum’s cousin) about home items yesterday, it dawned on me that soon, Kei and I will get to have a place of our own. Good thing Kei is an awesome architect! Proud fiancee is proud!

For the meantime, we got some deciding to do.

My Aunt Karen is going to get us beddings from Australia, where she resides. So, I pored over the fancy beddings online. I have what I wanted in my mind. I wanted something like what we have seen recently at Pottery Barn, minus the hefty price tag of course. These pictures below are the beddings we really liked at Pottery Barn.  Ambitious little me.  pottery greypottery blue I knew what color/s we like. But size is also another important thing to consider.  Apparently there are a lot of mattress sizes. Mattress sizes differ from each country, and it’s no wonder we got stumped.

Ready made Couple’s  Bed sizes in Philippines. California King size is a made to order basis here in the Philippines.

Ready made Bed sizes in Philippines. The California King size bed is in a made to order basis here in the Philippines. I grew up with a queen sized bed.

Kei is 5’9” while I am a mere 5’1”. We could easily fit into a queen sized bed, but we are both “malikot matulog” (Filipino term for restless/fidgety sleepers). So the width of the bed must be considered, lest we end up arguing who woke up who.

In the end we decided that we will get a King sized bed. That would give us plenty of space.

Since its sale season in Australia, we have to decide what to get fast before the sale ends. We were overwhelmed with the designs to choose from! Of course we also have to account the practicality of what we like, since the climate of the Philippines differs greatly from Australia.

In the end with the help of Aunt Karen, we picked these lovely and practical quilt sets on sale from Kmart. our picksSince we are going for neutral + blue color scheme for our future home.  These on sale is beyond perfect.

Thanks for the help Aunt Karen you helped us save for bedroom items.

Many thanks Aunt Karen!

Bath and Body Works Artisan Market Fragrance Mists

My cousin Jackie (from the States) got me some stuff from Bath and Body Works. They arrived today! Delighted with my package! Much thanks!

She got me a lot of sweet smelling stuff but what caught my eye was the trio of Artisan Market travel fragrance mists from their fall 2014 collection. I love the colorful packaging of the pretty bottles, so bright and cheery! And these will fit easily into my weekend bag! It’s right up my alley. So, I’m going to post a review on these first.

bath and body works

Let’s start with Apple blossom and lavender.

Bath and body woks website says: A hand-picked bouquet of apple blossoms, fresh-cut lavender and jasmine petals, dotted with passionfruit and sparkling quince

Top Notes: Passionfruit Nectar, Crisp Green Apple, Juicy Clementine, Apricot Nectar

Mid Notes: Sparkling Quince, Apple Blossom, Magnolia, Jasmine Petals, Fresh Lavender

Dry Notes: Amber Wood, Vibrant Musk, Sandalwood, Creamy Vanilla

My thoughts on this: This is a light sweet floral scent to me. I usually dislike lavender as lavender can be overpowering, but this combination works! I can smell both the apple and lavender. The apple made the scent fresh. The lavender brings a feminine/floral to the blend.

A light, refreshing scent. This would be a morning scent for me.

Next up is Peach & Honey Almond

Bath and body woks website says: An irresistible blend of summer peaches, mimosa flowers & honeyed almonds wrapped in creamy vanilla and Clementine

Top Notes: Juicy Peach, Flowering Quince, Zesty Clementine

Mid Notes: Mimosa Flower, Apple Blossom, Blackberry Leaf, Almond

Dry Notes: Whipped Meringue, Caramel Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Creamy Golden Honey

My thoughts on this: I love peaches and I have high hopes for this one. This one is a gourmand scent! It has this warm, sweet and creamy quality that makes me think of jam, a bakery or home.

This scent feels like a warm hug. All smiles with this one.

And lastly,  Lemon Pomegranate Cream

Bath and body woks website says: A light as air blend of lemon crème, red pomegranates and iced raspberries topped with white woods and peony petals

Top Notes: Red Pomegranate, Sparkling Berry Bouquet, Juicy Red Currant

Mid Notes: Sheer Iris, Dewy Peony Petals, Addictive Raspberry

Dry Notes: Sheer Woods, Feathered Musk, Sweet Lemon Cream

My thoughts on this: This reminds me of my Victoria‘s Secret Sparkling Citrus Lemon Escape fragrance mist! The pomegranate is lost on me. This is more citrus.

Perky and citrusy scent. This will work well as an afternoon scent.

I really liked the Artisan Market fragrance mists! But my favorite (out of the 3) would be the Apple Blossom & Lavander.
