my random ramblings

lost and found

I now own two umbrellas.

my umbrellas

my umbrellas- on top -the original umbrella, bottom -the new one

That seems to be weird for me, because for the longest time it has always been one umbrella for one little me. I use things until they decide to give up on me (broken). I also develop attachment to things and that sort of “relationship” makes me take good care of my things.

2 years ago.  I came home with my umbrella broken after a fight with strong wind/s of a typhoon, seeing that I have nothing to use the next day my (younger) sister Nicole gave me one of hers. –Unlike me, Nicole sort of collects umbrellas. And owns three or more. It is still in pristine condition that I do not think of it as a hand-me-down but rather as a gift.

The one she gave me is a automatic collapsible umbrella in navy blue with a purple trim. I was thankful for the gift and has grown rather fond of the umbrella for its ease of use and because it is compact and lightweight. Sturdy too!  It has been with me through every rain and the intense heat I encountered on the way. It has been with me through the heavy rains and manages to get me home somewhat dry.

Each time I use the umbrella, I feel grateful for my sister. Obviously, I have a strong sense of attachment to that umbrella.

Till it went missing for (2) weeks. I realized it was missing when there was a drizzle and I tried to look for the umbrella in my bag. No umbrella to be found. I waited for the rain to pass and thought I must have left it at home. Once I got home, I frantically searched for the umbrella but it is nowhere to be found.

It was sad. And because it is the monsoon season, rains are unavoidable. I know I have to find the umbrella or buy a new one. I just braved the rains and still thought the umbrella would magically show up one day at home. Meanwhile, I used a huge golf umbrella as a temporary umbrella. I also came clean and told my sister I lost the umbrella she gave me. I am resigned to the fact that I really have to replace the lost umbrella.

Over the weekend with my sister in tow, I brought a new umbrella (the second umbrella). It was bigger than the first umbrella, much heavier but with the same function. It was lavander with silver trim. While I loved the new umbrella, I still compare it to the original umbrella that I lost.

It has encountered light rains but I didn’t get the chance to use it yet. –My personal take was if it’s just a light rain, why would I bother? It’s just water anyway.

Yesterday, I got a message from Kei. Telling me that the umbrella I lost was going home. I was puzzled. After all, it has been a while. As soon as Kei got home he gave me back the umbrella. Turns out I had forgotten to bring back my umbrella and it was left at our friend’s house. The time they were looking for it, it was mistakenly used as their own by one of their nannies. That made us think that we lost it. But they realized that it was ours and sent it back.

So, I got my beloved umbrella back! -And now I have two umbrellas.

fall-ing rain

It is officially Christmas! Here in the Philippines (of course) as the “ber” month are here again.

I hate you traffic season! I also hate the sudden downpours!

And because of the impending Christmas season I am officially one stressed out cray-cray gal.  I STILL HAVE A LOT TO DO W/REGARDS TO MY WEDDING PREPS. Fretting about my permits for the prenup shoot. Still have my fittings and my entourage (kids) to monitor. Creating a home. Add the cleaning of our soon to be home, and its contents. Plus Feng Shui issues. (I still cannot understand Feng Shui!-Maybe I am not supposed to be Chinese?!) Or my problem with the existing bathroom tiles?-It is green and I dislike green. But, I have to find a way to live with it and work around that green bathroom. I spend every weekend of the last month at every home depot. Looking at paints, lights, tiles, sinks, fixtures and all those home stuff I never thought existed.

I now get excited at paint swatches. Go figure.

yes! paints

some of the paint colors I picked out.

Plus, I have to fill the house with appliances too. So yeah. All the weekends has come to alternating home depot, our home, and appliance stores. Then I have to double up my workload to get by the holiday season without a hitch. Looking haggard and more haggard if that is possible by the second.

Oh and with the drop in temperature, I now have dry eyes that means I have to say bye to wearing contact lenses. Old auntie land here I come. Hah.

Leighton wears glasses too! I got new tortoisehells to rock daily.

Now, if only I can add two to five hours on everyday to get all everything done…

waterlogged

I type this with my rain soaked shoes, it is typhoon season again in the Philippines. The super hassle wet season.

Spent the past few days buried under a pile of work, so it is only now that I have the time to blog.

I have also pretty much given up on going RTW for the rest of my prenup gowns. I went about different department stores to look at their gowns but sadly, most of them have garterized back/s that I hate, so it’s a nay.

I do however found a shop that sell gowns that look pretty.

Case in point: Bellabianca. I really liked one of their gowns. (The one named chandler.) But they don’t have the color I like (pink) in my size.  So, I ended up fitting the (mint green) gown in my size (small). The other small size is grey, the color makes me look drab. So no thanks.

almost, but not quite

almost, but not quite

I find it pretty and a bit “elsa”-ish. (Elsa from frozen) Thanks to the blizzard beading and its color.

As you can see even the small gown does not fit… It still needs alterations and I am not about to plunk down more for alterations. Sorry.

So, I have to face the fact that I need to go back to a mananahi. To customize the fabric, size and color I like. I also took a trip to Carolina’s at Glorietta to look for beads and fabric.

This time, I bought 5 packs of crystal ab flatback sew on jewel beads. I love sparkly stuff.

And contemplating on buying fabric (that I like),  give it to the seamstress to get a gown made.

This is the pretty fabric that caught my attention.

thanks for holding the fabric Kei.

thanks for holding the fabric Kei.

I do not know what this is called. All I know is that the fabric is pretty!

All the more wanted to get a pink gown made. Sigh.

My acne journey: products I am using this summer season 2015

Summer is in full swing and is wreaking havoc to my skin. Here I go again. It seems like I am better of with the cold climate months, my skin magically clears up. I think my skin did not get the memo that we are living in the sunny Philippines. Mad hate.

Currently, I am religiously going to my dermatologist, once a week for cleaning. Before, I go there every other week. But since, I need to have clear skin for my big day and the days before that, I have no choice but to really drag myself to the clinic weekly. Every week there is a lot cleaned out, but still a lot remain or pop-up. I freaking hate it. Shelling out and getting pricked is not really something to look forward to.

My face is an oil slick with bumps mostly on my forehead. (I drink a lot of water now, so no. I am not dehydrated. My skin just hates me.)

After another painful pricking session. I asked the derma what else can he recommend, besides the glycerin soap and derma-made toners I am using. I also told him that the glycerin soap seem to lack the cleaning feel it used to have.

get me through the hot summer days please.

get me through the hot summer days please.

He recommended me to take doxycycline once a day for ten days. Then got me to to use acne-aid soap, continue with my toners and lastly use epiduo. My skin got a bit less bumpy. Thank God. But after 4 days, I feel the “burning-skin-feeling”. So I topped it all off with a light moisturizer I already used months ago.

Does your skin breakout on hot summer days too?

How we spent labor weekend: aka our Gay-bordate shopping weekend

So, most people we know are off to Boracay to spend the labor day weekend. Being true blue city-girl-mall-rats….my best friend and me have decided that labor day will be dedicated to hunting items from our Christmas wish list (last year 2014) but with the premise of getting the said stuff on sale or discount.

So, Joanna wanted a Marc Jacobs Henry Skeleton Watch, I was looking for Miss Dior EDP preferably the 100ml bottle. Those were the specific item we are hunting for. Since both items are pricey. We looked at every possible option to obtain them for cheaper. (That means we spent the past few months, going to Rustans, Cash and carry, Shangri-la and even looking for it online.) Till this weekend. It was do or die. We are going to wing it.

This is going to be a girly shopping day. Hence, Gay-bor date.

With Kei in tow, off we go to Cash and Carry to look for the Miss Dior edp. I asked store after store to no avail.

close but not really the one. sorry.

close but not really the one. sorry.

Started with Bescost (they only have the old miss dior originale with the full houndstooth patterened bottle see top left photo), then to Criseldas’s (that only has the miss dior blooming bouquet variant see top right photo), Tia Loleng’s ( no miss dior here), till I saw it at Anselka’s! A 100ml bottle with the gold/amber liquid! Was grinning with excitement.

hollo lovely!

hello lovely!

I hurriedly dragged Jo to Anselka’s and showed her the bottle. Checked it for authenticity and went on to get the loot. Mad happy really.

Next, we went to meet Jo’s Dad and he drove us/treated us to a sumptuous lunch at Tim Ho Wan. That porkbun was melt in the mouth yums! Lunch was so awesome we finished lunch in less than an hour. I also learned a few Cantonese phrases over lunch. Also added a new food fave  – Lo mai gai. That my friends, is steamed glutinous rice in lotus leaf.

So after lunch our group went to meet our childhood friend Geordan, plus his parents. Chatted up a bit and it was time for them to go. Jo’s dad also went home.  With only the three of us are walking around Glorietta, Kei and I went to introduce Adora to Joanna. She loved the place! She is familiar with the bags! And proceeded to give me a crash course on bag appreciation. Fancy stuff. After the bags, I got her to try Penhaligon’s scents. After a few sniffs on the testers, she ended up liking what I liked best – Empressa. We like patchouli. Hahaha!

Then looked at the watches on display. Little did I know, the watch Jo likes was on display! And an added bonus, on sale.

finally found you.

finally found you.

She has been looking for it for a while now. Her initial pick was the rose gold version of the Marc Jacobs Henry Skeleton watch, but seeing this lovely gold version made her change her mind. Few more minutes waiting for it to get adjusted, Joanna got her loot! With a gift with purchase sticky note pad! Score!

So we went to have a afternoon coffee to escape the summer heat.

Then proceeded to take outfit of the day pictures. Sun dresses are the in thing for the day!

Come dinner, we get Joanna to try one of our fave food haunt Kitchitora. We both got Paitan ramen sets. So that she gets to sample the different appetizers.

Kei got tsukemen as expected. Here is our whole spread.

Joanna loved the place and the food! Good one Kitchitora!

After dinner we chatted a bit then its time to go home. To cap it all off here is our loot for the day.

*Much thanks to Kei for accompanying us, being the photographer for the day and helping us find our stuff! Our only regret is we did not take picture with Joanna’s dad and Geordan plus his parents. Next time… Overall it is a good day for shopping.

Next day was Saturday. It was a normal work day for me. And also did all my grooming rounds. By that I mean going to the dermatologist and dentist. Kei prepared his presentation for church tomorrow. We spent the day at home watching big bang theory and eating chickenjoy,  heaps of palabok + Chinese take out dinner,  all of which are drowned with buko juice. We are cool like that. hahaha!

Sunday was a Yes and No day. YES that Kei pulled off the church activity he planned perfectly. All is well till Pacquiao lost. That was the NO. Bummer.

We ran off to the mall again, where else?! hahaha! the afternoon was spent on retail therapy. We tried Old Navy as we heard that they make good looking comfy-casual clothes and that their pant/s selection is good! Meaning they carry a wide range of pant sizes! So, Kei tried on pants and I tried on dresses.

Here are the ones I tried on. From left to right: White eyelet dress (no xs size so not for me), the middle and right are the same design, only the middle is a swiss dot design and the right one is in stripes. All my picks are 100% cotton fabric. I hate polyester.

all pretty!

all pretty! photos taken from old navy

He got two pants one in denim and another in khaki. I got two dresses. The swiss dot and the stripe. After that we doused our hot temper in iced macchiato and went back to grab our new found fave porkbuns. Then ate a lot again for dinner.

this is

this helped us feel better. but our wallet does not feel better. lols.

This sums up our weekend. We eat and shop.

How did you spend you labor weekend?

it has turned chilly

These are my best friends right now.

my favorite chilly weather products

my favorite chilly weather products as of the moment

My skin is dry. I have rough patches on my arms! Lips are also cracked. eeeek!

To make my skin a bit more hydrated, I am toting around and slathering on a more than usual amount of  Jergens. This helps with my dry skin. For the cracked lips, I have Burt’s Bee’s grapefruit lipbalm to lessen the dryness, I sometimes find myself applying the lipbalm just to smell the grapefruit scent!

For my bath soap I am currently using Nesti Dante soap as it is gentle and rich/creamy (triple-milled bar soap) with no parabens! For fragrance, I  am drawn to the light fresh Incanto Shine, using it almost everyday!

On weekend I seem to favor red lipstick this cold month. Making my NYX SnowWhite lippie a staple in my bag.

There I have shared my chilly weather favorite products, care to share yours?

Cure for the blues: Bunny Baker Café and cake studio

We had a really bad week. How bad? Kei got mugged on his way to work. I have a nitpicking client that seems to want more and more freebies. Our weekend plans were cancelled, the red gown I had made turned out to be blue. To top it all off the rain has to pour.

Cue music: Why does it always rain on me? by Travis that would be my anthem for 2014.

But we got an invite from our friends (Kenzei and Aila) café and cake studio soft opening. We had that going for us which is nice.

So we braved the drizzly morning to be greeted by this.

cuteness!

cheery cute!

We are welcomed and seated on really cute pink bunny chairs! That was designed and customized specially for bunny baker! Their interiors is really cheerful, cozy and very well thought of, I really liked the stars on the ceiling. It reminds me of glow in the dark stickers.

Upon closer look on their display, they have different flavors of really cute cupcakes and gelato!

But not to forget, the Bunny baker is well-known for their very detailed and whimsical fondant cake creations.

kids cakes

Those cakes are created by the (bunny baker owners) husband and wife team, Aila (wife) doing the cakes and Kenzei (husband) in charge of sculpting the fondant. What started out as a hobby, and then turned into a home operation is now a cake shop. They also do wedding cakes, cupcakes, macarons and set-up for events.

See the level of detail on this pink Chinese lion fondant cake?

Awesome right?

While I was busy taking pictures, Kei took the liberty of ordering a light lunch. We got creamy pesto pasta, spam fries and ceasar salad. For drinks we have pink lemonade.

We love the creamy pesto and fought for the last piece of spam fries! It’s good.

For dessert I got a royal blush cupcake (red velvet with nutella frosting) and Kei got a scoop of okinawa (milk tea flavored) gelato.

Despite the continuous rain outside, we left the place feeling brighter.

Thanks for having us over Kenzei & Aila! We will be back soon!
