well, I am DIY-ing my beads

While I wanted to add colored metal to my Pandora bracelet, I cannot shell out 9k plus for just one (1) solid gold Pandora spacer. Its just ridiculous.

taken from Pandora’s website

I really like the twisted design though… and I wanted it in solid gold. Not like the new gold plated beads (Pandora Shine) that Pandora recently introduced.

So, after some thought, I had a pair of gold spacers custom made. It took quite some time for trial and error, because I had one made and used it to cast the other.  I also used the old gold of my childhood earring to be recycled to add to my spacers.

my childhood earrings

While it is NOT from Pandora. I got good value for my money. Because instead of the initial plan of getting the spacers in 14k I had it made into 18K. And got the (2) pair for the price of 14,500php! -kind of like getting one 18k gold spacer for 7,250php that is still cheaper than one 14k spacer from Pandora. Its a good deal. And for the reveal… here are my custom made 18k solid gold spacers!  They might look small, but surprisingly they have a feel of weight to it.

My 18k gold twist spacers

So why did I choose to get 18k?

Gold is measured in karats. This unit of measurement tells us the percentage of gold in a piece. 18K gold (which is 75% gold) is the traditional mix of gold and other alloys, and it lends itself to making beautiful jewelry. This karat amount is less expensive than 24K but is very commonly used in fine jewelry making. Its coloring is a softer yellow than the deeper yellow of 24 karat, but the soft golden tone of the 18k is much more desirable in comparison to the paler 14K coloring.

To demonstrate the color here is a photo of 14k and 18k.

see the color difference?

The most common type of gold used in jewelry in the U.S. is 14K and it was created to make a gold piece more affordable, at the expense of having less gold. This karat amount contains 58.3% gold, and similar to 18K, its strength is a good fit for rings and bracelets to necklaces and earrings.  14K was selected for a simple reason though… it is because it is just over half gold.  In addition to less gold and a smaller price, 14K tends to have less of a yellow color relative to 18K or higher.

Here is another photo in a different light.

On hand – the 14k pales in comparison to the 18k spacer.

And the beauty of getting solid gold is that should I get tired of the spacers I could get it melted and made into another trinket.

My bracelet is now looking a bit put together and is now obviously looking two toned! I still haven’t decided if I am going to get clips. But right now I am pretty pleased with how it looks. I might add another pair of spacers once I decided if I wanted gold or go with rose gold for variation. I am very much indecisive, I know! If I could I would get all the stuff I like. I am limited only because I have budget to consider. Hahahaha! Help me decide?

two toned and loving it!

After all I still have a lot of room to spare on my bracelet. What do you think of my custom made spacers? Let me know your thoughts.

summer splurge

Just wanted to say: I am not an influencer, nor a style blogger. I just happen to love clothes.

I caved in and spent wayyy too much at the recently concluded preview events of Plains and Prints.

Two bags full -One for each preview event I went to.

I went to both previews in Shangri-la and in Trinoma. This time I went overboard and ended up with three dresses, a top and shorts.

* I usually get a just a dress or two- if budget permits.

** But then again, I tend to wear my clothes over and over so its ok. Plus, since it is a preview, I technically get to wear these dresses before they go mainstream. So these were the reasons I tell myself to justify the splurge.  Sorry I’m rambling.

So, here is what  I got.

Blue berries dress

The Blueberries dress that I had my eye on since I saw it at the store catalog. It looks like a blouse and skirt combo, but is really a dress! Since I have a penchant for blue, and the fit is good…this is now on my closet. I also really liked that it has sleeves, because my closet is almost dominated by sleeveless dresses so this is a good variation. Added bonus, it has pockets!

A surprise find on the store was this playful, millenial pink dress named Beverlee.

Loving the print on this one! -Its a cute illustrated map.

I really dig the print of this one, it also has pockets! Sold.

Those were the two I got on the first event. But, I knew I have to go back because I am having buyer’s remorse about not getting a top and short that I tried on the store. *I tried quite a lot of dresses. But in the end, I just have to get what fits me well and what I really liked.

So, I went to the next preview and got this top for myself.

This was the reason I went back. Byanca top with quarter sleeves and succulent print.

I am sorry but I still can’t find a photo of the shorts I got. It is named Andreas -a light blue, scalloped hem, chambray shorts with a bow belt. – I really loved the relaxed fit of the shorts. To pair with the top pictured above.

As I was about to leave the store, I stopped by the counter to ask for the latest offerings/restock they had. They had me try on the Grapes dress -which I heard was one of the most requested dress in this summer release. -It was ok but, I guess its not for my body type. So it was a pass. That led me to try this one on. Because blue!

Constanze dress

I just had to try it. This dress was lighter than the other two dresses I got, it has no pockets but the fit was very flattering, I love the color. The print also has that fun tropical feel to it so, off to the bag it goes.

I guess I am done with my summer dress shopping for now.  Splurged on anything nice this summer? I’d love to know!

**All my reviews, opinions, and other stuff expressed here are my own and based on my own experience with the product. This is not a sponsored post, I paid for this (from) my own pocket. – The clothes posted here will soon be available in Plains and prints stores this summer season. Expect for the blue berries dress. They already have the dress in stores.

kind of a DIY bracelet

I am so late to the party but better late than never right? In my case, I am quite late and slow on curating my Pandora charm bracelet!

As children my best friend and I admired bracelets be it chains, bangles, half chain but we had a soft spot specially for charm bracelets –those chunky and dangly ones that has some round bells on it always catches our eyes. We got ours right before college. We wore it for quite a while and then, it got lost and that was that.

By 2014 (I think) Joanna showed me her new charm bracelet acquisition. A Pandora bracelet was on her arm and she already had some charms on it. I wanted one of course! But I controlled myself by saying I cannot spend money for a new bracelet since my wedding is eating up all my funds.

Pandora collier bracelet

Come late 2015, Joanna surprised me with a Pandora bracelet on my bridal shower. It also has a language of love charm on it too!

to the left: Language of love charm that came with the bracelet Jo gave me. Right: A two tone Bearhugs charm -the first charm given to me by Kei

Then after the wedding Kei got me the Bearhugs and family heritage charm. All of my Pandora stuff are treasured gifts!

two tone Family heritage charm from Kei

I left it at that.

I did buy a charm to give though! (this was early 2016) I got Jo a Elsa Crown charm.

Elsa’s crown- from the Disney movie frozen

It reminds me of her (high school) uniform color that is blue, and fits with her being a December baby, and that it is a crown! So she got that added to her collection. Her bracelet has a blue/green theme to it that the Elsa crown fits in nicely.

So back to my collection. I wanted my bracelet to have a mix metal look. No glass. No color. Just all metals.

There was a charm that I really wanted though I cannot seem to find it. The Disney frozen snowflake charm. – It was exclusively sold in Disney parks, and we don’t have it here in the Philippines. I loved the geometric lines of the charm and I appreciate that it was kind of like a “special snowflake”, plus being born in winter also makes it a nice charm to have for me. So, thought I could find it from online sellers (this was on 2016), but I never did.

Last year (around the end of 2017) I really wanted to add something  to it and started looking for a safety chain. I have been indecisive as to get it or not since the charm was a bit pricey, so I went about looking for a pre-loved one –with a good “history” of course. The owner of the chain has her bracelet full of charms and wanted to free up some space to fit in one more charm. I mulled it over and went about my usual “window shopping” and still did not get any…It was Kei that got impatient and ended up getting the chain for me as part of my Christmas gift.

Love connection safety chain

Upon looking a lot at the net I discovered that I can get a online shopper to find that elusive Disney frozen snowflake! But I have to wait for a month for it to arrive. I excitedly told Kei and Jo and they teamed up to get it for me. I am lucky, I know. I am going to have that snowflake by the end of January.

Disney Frozen Snowflakes Charm

I just got the charm yesterday! -On the Blue blood moon day! And It was beautiful!

My bracelet is now most predominantly silver. So I am setting my sights to add a new metal to my bracelet to add variety. I wanted to get rose gold-because it is cheaper than the ridiculously priced gold charms. And I really, really like the color. I have set my sights on the shining path clip in rose gold. I wanted to get a pair, so my charms doesn’t slide around. (It is annoying when they do that.) And maybe a spacer or two? Any suggestions?

Update: I bit the gold bullet. I went to ask for a pair of custom made 14k gold spacers from my jeweler. I chose the design below as the inspiration. While mine won’t be legit Pandora, it is still 14k gold,  just more affordable for me – I can get it melted and re made into another trinket if I do get tired of it. *Will update once I get my hands on it.

embracing florals

No use fighting it. Colorful floral prints are in.

Most shop windows are blooming with florals weather it be large brightly colored prints, embroidery or patches. But flower prints are not that easy to wear, there is a huge possibility that the nice dress would  look “granny-ish” once worn. That being said, I do not have florals in my closet. I do have floral inspired earrings though.

When you tell me floral, this is all I have. (unless you count chinoiserie toile as floral then, I have two florals) I tend to go safe when it comes to following the trend. -unless I really really dig the current trend.

embroidered floral on dark chambray polo – my first attempt at floral.

But when I saw this picture. I know I need to get one. Hello to huge bright floral prints!

I got this bold floral on gingham print dress because Pia Wurtzbach is looking good wearing it! Shallow reason, but to be fair I recently watched her life story so maybe that was it? I am going to wear mine with Fitflops!-Photo of Pia from the internet.

Quickly ordered one online and discovered that I lack the height. So, I will be taking the dress to the alteration shop to get it shortened to (my) knee length.

Because I have started with one floral dress, its going to have more for company. I got another floral dress, shorter this time and in a more tropical vibe.

Taming the florals with a denim jacket and keeping it all together with wedges.

I have also been contemplating on getting more floral pieces. Might as well join in the fray.

*I get to watch the first episode of Game of Thrones season 7 later! yey! -Will be posting about the new additions to my Funko Pop collection soon.

long overdue post: the prenup pictures

So here is my long overdue post: the prenup pictures.

I will be honest here, we were actually hesitant to post the pictures before the wedding because we didn’t want to spoil the surprise.

So it is only now. For that I am sorry.

(Of course, I did not post all of them…I just pick out a few to share. * I wouldn’t want to bore you guys.)

All these were shot by the incredibly talented team of photographers and also our friends from RealityBox. They are responsible for all the wonderful photos, despite all the troubles we met (Traffic, rain, angry/really nosy guards, uncooperative mob of people…etc.) looking at the photos, you would never have thought we were faced with obstacles.

~want to know more about RealityBox? I will talk more about them in another post. I still have to let you see my wedding photos.  *Winks!

So here are our Prenup/Pre-wedding photos!

We used this photo for our save the date and also for the photobooth!

We used this photo for our save the date and also for the photobooth!

We veered away from the usual garden prenups, and went for something dark, dramatic and edgy but still romantic because we also got locations that have been a part of our story. Inspired by a mix of Gossip Girl, Wong Kar Wai’s – In the mood for love, and Mafia. Yes we are kind of eclectic.

These were shot at Salon De Ning of Manila Peninsula.

it was drizzling when we shot these

**people could not let us be… besides the ROTC cadets the day of the shoot, we also have to be with all the many UST hopefuls – they came to take the entrance exam that day!!! We went to the Med Bldg area where there is less people to take some more pictures and it rained! So we just took cover and  waited till it turned dark.

Its a wrap! these are the last two shots at UST.

My Makeup artist is Krist Bansuelo for the Salon de Ning, Ayala Triangle and Makati Stock Exchange set of photos. The UST pictures were done by Katchie Mejias. *Yes, my make-up was done by two different makeup artists, because my shoot took two days to complete (due to the different location and concept).

Styling are all done by myself. As for my clothes, you probably know about all my dress adventures in this past post. Of course I had help from my mum, sister, best friend Joanna and my long lost but now found childhood friend Eds. I couldn’t have done it all without them.

troubleshooting

Right now, one of my fur babies is sick. My brown bunny-Pepper is having a case of rabbit “head tilt“.

photos from the internet

photos from the internet

We already took her to the vet. Pepper had a antibiotic injection and was prescribed Polecin.

To be administered twice a day. Two drops on every ear.

By now I am also giving Trixy-the white bunny a drop of Polecin on each ear. Preventive measures.

Moving along, Our revised invites also came in. So, we are now contemplating on how to send all these to their recipients…

say hello to the trifold version!

say hello to the trifold version!

While doing that, I am also busy crafting/sewing. Yes another D.I.Y. project. I must be cray.

This time it is for my flower girls. Actually, I am quite happy with their dresses because they look like what I really wanted.

the dress before the flowers

At the shop: the girls dresses before the flowers, pardon the lighting. They look cute right? I am still waiting for the embellishments.

So fast forward to a few days after… the dresses now look like this.

just look at it.

Again pardon the lighting.

Ugh. Yes. I wanted applique flowers. But, not those reddish-purple flowers… It is not my color. I specifically asked for pastel colors. blush, lilac and peach. I got blush, purple and the reddish-purple color I hate. So, I had to get it fixed. But again since December is so near… there is no way the seamstress is going to get the time to make new flowers.

That leaves me with: take it as it is or create my own flowers.

I chose the latter. Again I blame my O.C. -ness.

So I created flower templates and got 3 yards of crystal organza (these are the shiny type of organza) -one yard per color.

I was still enthusiastic at this time

lilac, blush and peach- finally my colors! I was still excited with starting my project at this time…

And the madness starts. I began cutting out flowers of different sizes that turned out to hacking the fabric with scissors!

All the while asking myself why did I even start this madness?

after cutting

after hacking away the fabric and cleaning up a bit of my mess to make my table picture worthy…

After that photo I have no more decent photos as I was busy burning and sewing the fabric flowers. I will just tell you that it was not easy.

burn baby burn

I am having a hard time taking a photo of what I am doing and doing the burning so, this photo is just to give you an idea on what I am doing… do I even make sense?

Most of my flowers came out burnt, my hands are also a bit burned. My success rate is a mere 30%.

this one is a success!

this one is a success! so burn around five more (six per layers per flower) and sew them up.

So here is my weird and wonky burned flowers.

so out of ten

Out of ten flowers, only three make it.

And some of the wastage I managed to take a photo of… my nanny swept off most of my mess.

all this in one day

all this scraps in one day.

Of course finally the product of my burnt hands and sweat.

these are made with sweat and tears and shouting and gliter

these are made with sweat and tears.

I only managed to make around six flowers in a three/four hours – I do this after dinner before going to bed. Usually start making these around eight in the evening and throwing in the towel by twelve. I need around eight flowers and six tiny flowers per flower girl.

alternative to the getting ready (bath) robes?-updated

*updated to include the photos of the actual getting ready dress I used on the day of the wedding.

Brides mostly wear robes while getting ready because robes don’t need to be pulled over the head, so that it does not mess up the perfectly styled hair. Button up shirts is also favored for the same reason.

Sure, I get why. But no bath robe for me. I don’t want to have pictures taken that I am wearing a bath robe. Why? Because as much as I love the comfy terrycloth bathrobe, they would look horrid in pictures. Like I just used the hotel supplied robes.

a terry cloth robe and linen robe -photos from the internet

a terry cloth robe (left) and linen robe (right) – photos from the internet

I also like those linen robes, but those usually come in drab colors, like white or grey. Cotton voile robes are hard to find, or has a dowdy print. Silk and satin robes are not really what I am looking for. Shiny fabrics are not my thing.

And lately there are those custom made (robes) shiny lace-y ones that are all the rage right now, are absolutely a no for my wallet! Sure I like that they can be customized, they look really pretty and all but, I don’t think I would wear it again after the wedding. With the money I need to shell out for a custom made robe, I’d rather get a dress I love that I can wear again and again.

Speaking of the dress I would love to have…

If I only have a ton of money, this Alexis Mabille dress Lea Seydoux wore will be my getting ready dress. I wish.

I love it!

I love  it and I wouldn’t change a thing! Photo from RCFA

But, I don’t (have a ton of money). And even if I love the hemline, it will not be practical.

So, I will just have to get the inspiration. I have always liked trench coat inspired dress so this is the chance to get myself one! I searched specifically for white ones to look more bride appropriate.

trench coat inspired!

trench coat inspired dresses! photos from the internet.

These fit the bill as it is a dress that wouldn’t mess my hair. I just wanted to make it look a bit more trench coat looking, with the double breasted buttons.  I also wanted it to be knee length with pockets on the sides.

My inspiration is a classic trench coat. Its timeless. They are simple, stylish and always look classy.

So after a bit of doodling… this will be my getting ready dress!

A sleeveless, trench inspired number. That is perfect for our warm weather. I could use and re-use and reuse this.

Pure linen would be a good choice as it is breathable and not shiny!

I based the design from the classic trench.

Pure linen fabric would be a good choice as it is breathable and not shiny!

For this my Mum accompanied me to look for fabric in Tabora, Divisoria. (walking under the intense heat and rows upon rows of street peddlers selling their wares, a crowd of shoppers… not really a walk in the park) Fabric shopping ain’t pretty. And pure linen have a very limited color choices! (I did not expect that it would be pricey! So, I was a bit surprised with the price of the fabric. Me and my penchant for the finer things in life… sigh)

Initially, I wanted my dress to be white or blush pink but there is no blush pink linen fabric to be found. The options only include white (I did not get white in the end as it would be difficult to maintain), grey, dark grey, blue, navy blue, brown, khaki, rust (my Mum likes this one), fuchsia and teal (my pick).

the color picks

the color we picked out- rust to the left and teal to the right

After much deliberation, I went with teal as it is a bright happy color. Plus it really works with my skin tone. The rust made my skin look a bit darker.

And off to the seamstress I go! Woot!

*so here is the updated part.

I personalized my getting ready dress. It had personalized embroidery on the sash! It would be there but not really too obvious.

Since I am taking Kei’s last name when I get married I got the embroidery to be ‘Mrs. Husband’sFirstAndLastName’. On second thought I wanted it to be ‘THE Mrs. Husband’sFirstAndLastName’! For added impact! hahaha!

Sorry had to delete parts of the name.

Here I am wearing the actual getting ready trench inspired dress on the day of the wedding. Sorry had to delete parts of the name.

My trench dress in action!

My trench dress in action!

-My cousin wore a simple gown on the morning of her wedding, another cousin wore a silk robe, a friend I know wore a button down polo. I have also seen other brides (to-be) don a simple dress. I am just curious… what did you wear/planning to wear as your “getting ready outfit” on the morning of your wedding?

fall favorites

We just finished the prenup shoot! ❤ So, I am back to blogging.

I’m just sharing the products that make me feel happy, pretty, girly-girl awesome. Even if I am a frazzled mess.

Nothing soothes my nerves quite like looking good.

Shallow, I know. But honey that is my therapy!

It sure is irrational that I go and get a lot of products and not use them everyday, I only use them on weekends. But I am still a girl and I’m just fascinated by makeup, dresses, and nail polish. Being pretty in general, like it would improve my quality of life?!

So, these are rightfully my fall favorites.

taken with my mobile phone- pardon the picture quality.

Since it’s fall season I darkened up my lips a notch. Currently alternating L’Oreal Paris collection star by Freida Pinto in Pure Rouge and Mac Rebel. These colors make me look polished and mature even if I only have baby powder on my face. -Added bonus: they make my teeth and skin look a lot whiter.

On my eyes, I am still on a roll with smokey eyes as it makes my tiny eyes look bigger and more awake. So the Urban Decay Naked Smoky eye shadow palette my cousin Jackie sent me gets a lot of love. I even managed to use it to create light eyes.

Depending on the color of the metal accessories I wear, I got metallic nail polish to match on my very short child like nails. I am using Zoya in Ziv (gold) and Trixy (silver). The nail polish is to add a bit of festive sparkle, after all it is only a few weeks to Christmas.

*All my reviews, opinions, and other stuff expressed here are my own and based on my own experience with the product. This is not a sponsored post, I paid for these (from) my own pocket, save for the eye shadows those were gifed to me by my cousin.

My prenup dress adventures: the roundup

I’ve been real busy. Sorry for being missing in action for the past few days.

But I got a lot of messages/questions about my prenup gowns. I was planning on sharing these after my prenup shoot but maybe the time is now.

So, I will let you see my dresses and as an added bonus: I will also share my list of my trusted seamstresses!

I am having a small victory right now.

After all the frustrations and tears from my hell of a dammed/fail red dress, I finally have another red dress that is like a gazillion times better than the bloody hell of a dress. Wanna see what the fail/bloody hell of a dress looks like? see it in my past post here.

While I was moping about the fail one, mom suggested we salvage it by getting it altered. After all she knew a good seamstress. (Ate Helen who made most of my mum’s cocktail dresses and the one who did a superb job on my lilac goddess gown) So, off we went.

Sharing a photo of my absolutely, gorgeous lilac gown. This was made by Ate Helen. Perfection in just one fitting. This is why we are her “suki” (a long standing customer).

my lilac gown

my Lilac gown that was made by Ate Helen from AyenMil Fashion Boutique

But there was a catch. Ate Helen is fully booked. There is simply no snippet of time that Ate Helen could do the extensive alteration. So, she begged off. We understood.

In case you are wondering about Ate Helen’s contact details? here they are:

Tell them Pam referred you. Ate Helen calls me shobe. =)

Tell them Pam referred you. Ate Helen calls me shobe. =)

So I was dragging myself out and moping along the way all the while telling mum that all is lost on the failed dress. When mum stopped walking to admire two gowns on display (a gold and orchid colored gown) and even ask for the shop owner.

the gowns on display

the exact gowns on display that caught our attention- photo taken from Tita Nedy

Apparently they were made by the owner of the shop and also a seamstress named Nedy. She made the gowns and is willing to sell it to me for a low price after seeing the first red dress that was a maximum fail. I thought the orchid gown was divine. But I already have a lilac gown and getting the orchid gown would be a repetition of color. Mum asked if she be willing to fix the dress, to which she simply said, save you the trouble. Get another one done.

I told her I really wanted a red asymmetrical dress, and that I liked what she did with the orchid gown. If she can make me one in red, it would be perfect. While taking my measurements she asked me about the fail gown. I told her the story, she chuckled. And said I will make you one that will make you forget the fail one. I smiled and hoped for the best.

After a three weeks. I was back in her shop twirling around happily in my new red dress! She made a wonderful concoction of satin and soft tulle in a bright candy apple red color with dainty sequin flowers! She thought the color would be perfect with my personality and skin tone. Tita Nedy was just like a fairy godmother, my dress was freaking fabulous! (I now call her tita Nedy)

red copy

my candy apple red gown made by Tita Nedy! -I really, really love it!

Only after the first and only fitting did I know, she makes curtains and dresses. Go figure.

The dress would need a few embellishment adjustments, and would be sewn the next day and my dress will be ready to wear!  Awesome-ness.

Loving my red gown like I do? I am sharing Tita Nedy’s contact details:

Tell them I sent you and send my love to Tita Nedy! =)

Tell them Pam sent you and send my love to Tita Nedy! =)

I may have also told you about the champagne gown that features the hunchback of Notre Dame look. I am scrapping that gown off too.

It is now replaced with the ivory-that-turned-out-to-be-champagne dress. This is made by Ysabelle.

ruffled and sexy!

ruffled and sexy! precise tailoring from Auntie Chai-Yong of Ysabelle

This is supposed to be my non beaded ivory-dance-dress that turned out to be the champagne-cocktail-dress. Not to be used at the wedding dance, only for prenup shoot or party purposes. Honestly, even if they did not get the color right, I love this dress. More of the back story here.

prepare your Chinese speaking skills and head on over! Look for Auntie Chai-Yong and tell them Pam sent you. =)

Last and definitely not the least. My white RTW gown. Remember the time I was frustrated with looking for seamstresses? And opted to look for RTW but because of my petite size I was getting no luck? The post is here.

Well, I managed to snag one beautiful RTW gown! While it was far from the styles I usually wear. *I dislike garterized backs, and I think halters make my shoulders look huge. But this gown managed to work on me. It fits comfortably and it looks unique.

this white gown is rtw!

this white gown is rtw!

I got this from Giovanna at 168 mall. (Sorry I lost the paper bag with the store’s details but I am sure that the store is on the third floor.)

So, those are my Prenup gowns. I will be mixing them with my existing dresses for the shoot.

*All my reviews, opinions, and other stuff expressed here are my own and based on my own experience. This is not a sponsored post, I paid for all the gowns including all the fail gown/s mentioned. I withheld the contact details of the fail/bad seamstresses and instead posted the good ones I encountered. Positive vibes!

**Love my gowns? These will be worn on my prenup. That means apart from fittings, I will wear these once. And these will be kept at my closet. If you are interested in my gowns, I am willing to sell them after my prenup shoot. -For reference I am (depending on the brand) a size 2 to 6, usually fits extra small to medium. For more details, leave a message.

much, much darker than expected a review: L’oreal Paris Excellence Fashion Hair Dye In 6.35 Intense Copper Brown

beforeI have half-half hair. I meant half brown, half black. My roots are on full show.

See photo on the right.  I don’t really like it, I mean who wants ugly roots showing?

Been dying my hair for years now and my goal is always a evenly toned medium to light brown hair. For most of the time, I dye myself using a box of hair dye. It is convenient that way.

Not to mention doing my hair at home is loads cheaper too!

So, I went out to look for a new hair color! And spotted the L’Oréal booth (in Sm department  store at Makati) that offers free application upon purchase of their boxed hair dyes! I hurriedly went to ask how to avail the free application. Then I go choose hair dyes. Sadly, there are not much to choose from, but eh… choosy pa ba ako?! Go na lang ng go!

*my mum’s go to brand for hair dye is loreal.  So I decided to try it out too.

And since I am a huge sucker for beautiful packaging, the new boxes got my attention. The time I arrived (lunch time), there are only two colors from their new collection. Intense copper brown and Violet brown. I picked the intense copper brown thinking that it will be lighter, thus showing up better on my dark hair.

I went to buy one box of Intense copper brown then went back to get another one.

I usually use one box of hair dye, but since I am trying to grow my hair longer I have to use two now. >_<

this photo was taken at home. after I got my hair done, I took home one of the box.

This photo was taken at home. After I got my hair done, I took home one of my two boxes. Of course the tube of color is now used up, so this is a slightly incomplete set.

Opening the box you will get to see the standard set: tube of colorant, color developer, instruction leaflet with gloves, hair serum, and the after color conditioner.

Cutting to the chase, I waited in line for my hair color application, after I filled up a survey form.

There were a lot of ladies waiting in line!!!

Then it was my turn.

the process

looking like a egghead is part of the process of getting my hair done! lols!

Quickly hopped on the chair and let the Loreal trained staff do her magic on my hair. I used up two boxes of the product! They did a good job in sectioning my hair and applying the product thickly.

*Hindi nila tinipid, talagang sinimot ang two boxes!

Of course the dye smelled a bit strong, but it did not sting at all! The product felt creamy. The light colored mixture of colorant + cream developer turned out darker and darker as the time progressed. Once my hair was covered with the hair dye, I have to wait for 45 mins for the color to develop before rinsing.

While rinsing, the staff asked me what color did I use. I told him that I got the new 6.35 Intense Copper Brown. He gasped and said out loud that he was worried. Honestly, I am worried too. Apparently the color I picked does not really show up on dark haired people, they got complaints about it.  Sad-ness.

Looks like I made the wrong move.

This was the result of the wait.

it was dark. real darker than what i expected.

It was dark. Real darker than what I expected. It looks like my natural hair color.

So, I went home to gauge the reaction of the family… My parents took one look at me and said: o, bumalik ka na sa tunay na buhok mo?! (You went back to your natural hair color?!)

Yeah, I look like I did not color my hair at all. The color only shows up on Intense light (pun intended).

The next morning after I took a bath, I quickly checked my hair again.

Got the box and looked at my hair again, and again and tried to take a photo under the bright indoor light.

Real dark, way dark. I really wanted to like this product but I was let down. I might consider getting my hair dyed after resting it for a month or two. I personally felt more comfortable with lighter hair.

Bottom line: I think Loreal hair dyes is made for those who wanted to cover grey/white hairs.  For the mature set. Or those looking for a dark hair dye after getting bleached blond hair. This would work really well. I also liked that after getting my hair dyed with Loreal it did not become dry, instead it appears to have improved the condition of my hair.
