start of BER

I’m back. Back to gardening and home posts that is.

Since my mobile network connection was shot, I turned to gardening…

hopefully these will live and flower to add color to our patio

Found these seed packets on the supermarket and have managed to germinate the vinca seeds in 1 week. Hopefully the zinnias I planted yesterday would germinate too. Live long and prosper plants!

On the home front we are still slowly working on making our place feel more like us, in terms of decor. -Since its already September its just a matter of time before Christmas is here again and we are always having guests over, we are starting to look for additions/decorations for our place.

Being small space/city dwellers like us, we are constantly looking for ways to make our small space seem bigger. A well known trick is to use mirrors to open up the space as they give the illusion of a larger space.  We are pretty keen on doing just that to our dining area because we do not have any windows there.

We were going for something that gives this effect. But on a smaller scale. -Photo from the internet

It’s a good thing that we chanced upon Crate and Barrel’s sale last week and managed to snag this beautiful charcoal arched mirror designed by Blake Tovin.  It has a subtle curve that makes it look like a (cottage) window and yet the mirror still looks looks every-bit modern with its clean lines.

Crate and Barrel Arch mirror in charcoal -the exact mirror we got and have yet to hang.

We are hanging it up by our dining table just like in the inspiration photo. Maybe this coming weekend we would be able to mount it on the wall. The delay in hanging up the mirror was because we have some OCD issues freshened up the paint at home last weekend, right after we got the mirror.

How was the start of your ber months?

^update, My mobile connection is now ok. finally. =)

May, that was fast

A lot has happened this month. I had a unexpected schedule change at work that kept me busy, hence the lack of posts.

Most of the month was spent catching up with friends and  family. Spent the first weekend with Kei’s siblings, bonding over guardians of the galaxy and okonomiyaki. The second, we were up to catch up with our good friend Tassha who we haven’t seen for more than a year! We catched up over Japanese dishes at Oedo. For the third week, it was being with a few of our office friends over coffee at Tim Horton’s. Then a whole day with Matti where we indulged in comfort food at Nono’s, Rodic’s tapa and our usual Starbucks merienda.

flavors of our month – the food we shared/enjoyed with the company of friends

Gardening updates: I finally acquired white marble pothos! – my golden photos now has a brother. Managed to get a rosal and make it bloom! -along with my sampaguitas, the flowers smell divine. And finally a small miracle… our silver lace fern that I thought was lost, came back! -hopefully the fern will stay for good.

Few more days and it will be June. Rain, rain, here we go!

*looking forward to the long weekends of June!

grey and yellow

I never thought about it that much but apparently I have been wearing the “grey shirt” daily. Not the same shirt of course but the same color.

All grey, even my bed sheets are grey. *I think I have 3 more grey shirts are in the laundry basket.

Discovered it as I was sort of tidying my perpetually messy closet. Seems like I have outgrown my happy bright colored shirts, thanks to me getting fat.-Not that I am complaining. This is reason enough to get more clothes/shirts.

Hence all the grey shirts. I dig my grey shirts, they are simple, neutral, inconspicuous and as long as the fabric is soft and comfy, I am good. They sort of became my personal work uniform. I do not have to worry about what to put on in the morning and how they look – I just toss on what is in my cabinet. Will just worry about what to wear on the weekends. Saving me time for the daily commute to work.

Also freeing up some precious morning time for my gardening efforts. On that part, the marigolds are in bloom again!

like drops of sunshine!

The flowers look so bright and happy. Summer is here!

travesty all over

Happy to report that I have been “healthy” eating a lot since I got market greens from Baguio.

I have made strawberry shrimp salad. Aka Pammy approved salad-that means its not exactly that healthy since I used quite a lot of butter on the shrimp.

I also made Sagada orange salad from Jo’s Sagada oranges.

Also cooked deep fried oyster mushrooms! -This is so yums! (obviously not healthy.)

After finishing off all the Baguio greens we got, it is time for CNY (Chinese New Year). Of course it is not CNY if we are not pigging out. *I am always pigging out.

And because it is not a family gathering without family drama, I had loads and loads of drama. I think I had enough for a year, or five years even. That makes me very wary paranoid of family gatherings. Being made to feel inadequate by someone who turns out to be a hypocrite -is something that I could definitely do without. Maybe next year I will go hermit.

But not all is dour. My geraniums from Baguio that I thought would never thrive in Manila actually bloomed quite a lot even after subjecting it to stress due to travelling! -It adapted well to the warmer climate.

My "stars and stripes" geranium from Baguio. My bestie Jo also got these.

For now I will be seeking refuge from my tiny patio garden. Till the next post.
