asian representation

I have been on a “Asian phase” in my viewing habits this past holiday weekend. I have seen Crazy rich Asians on the movies, also watched To all the boys I loved before and is currently watching Kim’s convenience on Netflix. And it was glorious. I could totally relate.

check, check and check!

For the record, I have the (books) trilogy of the Crazy rich Asians, also the same goes for To all the boys I loved before.

It was good to have these, since it has been a while since Fresh off the boat. I do however associate Constance Wu to her role Jessica Huang (Fresh off the boat) a bit too much that seeing her as Rachel Chu (Crazy rich Asians) reminds me of Jessica Huang. -but maybe that is just me.

this show gave me a lot of laughs

Since I am not really that much immersed in Chinese culture and tradition and has adapted a more “modern and eclectic mix” of thinking,  I find these shows mirror real life instances and feelings of me and my friends accurately. Watching these shows are like a slice of life as it hits so close to home with the general Asian values of frugality, filial piety, and the occasional family feuds driven by competitiveness. I just wish they keep on coming with Asian shows like these.

For now, I am going back to my Netflix maraton watching Kim’s convenience.

round two

After a long time of NOT reading books, I am back to reading again.

All thanks to my good friend Matti who sends me books from time to time. He knows that I will not buy my own books. -sorry but its kind of a long story. I have re-read this book.

And finished the whole book in a day.

This is a light read and has a unique way of telling a (young) love story. Its cute and sweet and doesn’t require much understanding – a good read for me because I read to relax.

Its a feel good read. Made me smile.

a quick escape

I wish I could be someplace else but since it looks like I am going to be stuck here, I might as well go on a little journey of my own by burrowing my nose on a book. To me, books are encapsulated magic, they take me to places I never could have been, talk to famous people both living and the dead, they are also teach me lot of stuff and keep me company when I have none.

I am never lonely or alone when I am with a book. I just sit on the couch and I can be in any part of the world, or on the fantasy world. I have friends big and small, furry, scaled, armored, winged, or deep in the ocean. In  there I can be a peasant, a princess or a unicorn! I can also be deep in thought while trying to analyze what the author is saying, but there is never a dull moment when I am with a book. I can go on reading for hours till I fall asleep and the moment I wake up, I want to go reading again.

Most  of my childhood was also spent in the company of books, I used to stay at the library for hours and go home with three books in tow, the next day I will be back again for more books. For the little me at that time,  ultimate comfort was having a good book, a bowl of ice cream and a rainy sky outside my window.

Since it is now the time for the rainy season, books the perfect place to get lost in.
