no stopping christmas

The tree is up!

We managed to assemble and decorate the tree, it turned out nicely!

our tree

here is Pepper photobombing our tree

The feathered birds looked right at home in the tree!

I might add some ribbons but it is looking good. At night it looks “glowy” like the rice lights had extra brilliance. See?

We also hung the ornament chandelier we got. -kind of missing a few more ornaments here and there because we have run out of ornaments. But it can hold on its own, maybe next year we add more. For now it would look like that, plus a few more ribbons. -For that I have to run to the neighborhood bookstore to get some ribbons.

The dining table also got a Christmas touch.

Yes we have bunnies on the table.

That’s about it for the Christmas decorations. Finishing up in time for our Friendsgiving this weekend!

Christmas is right around the corner! I am so excited for the holidays!

Holing up

We had some minor home fix its and additions that had us holed up at home for the whole weekend. Good news is our bedroom ceiling is all patched up. –We had to damage the ceiling for our air conditioning unit to fit (there wasn’t enough space). While it does not look pretty, due to the fact that we did not restore the “original state” since we had to make sure that we can get the unit out in case we need to. That was day one. For that I am quite thankful.

By the evening, we hurriedly went back to Landmark-Makati in hopes of getting those (darned) white Christmas balls that we were supposed to get last week. Again, there were none. Arrggggh. So, we thought maybe it wasn’t really meant to be. We just have to get the white using other Christmas decor.

In the end we managed to complete our Christmas décor hunt. In our chosen colors- red, aqua and white.

red white and blue?

red white and aqua blue decor- say hello to our feathered Christmas birds!

Hopefully by Nov 30 our tree will be up.

Day two, we are back to sawing, painting, sanding, cleaning up sawdust, and plaster. We smoothed out plaster, wiped out wood glue, installed a hook for the Christmas chandelier, permanently placed the clock by using screws this time and not with command strips. #adulting

By night, we got this neat ladder/trellis type shelf up. –This is going to be decorative/storage space and emergency sampayan (indoor clothesline) in case of rainy days! We also had hooks attached to it so we can hang a swag for Christmas.

our multitasking ladder shelf

I am loving our newly made multitasking ladder shelf!

Not bad right. I am quite pleased with how it turned out! Also just in time for our upcoming “Friendsgiving”! -We called our close friends for a little get together before everyone gets too busy with the holidays.

Then we went out to Akira to celebrate. Having a Izakaya night on a Sunday. We deserved it for the hard workday/s. hahahaha!

feast for the tummy and eyes too!

I am very much excited to decorate and get the tree up for the festivities!

collected and comfy

One of my favorite pastimes is to look at other people’s houses (on blogs) at the internet, I look at them for fun and inspiration. I like looking at how others decorate their place and their lifestyle.

But my personal favorites are those quirky homes/apartments that have a lot of character that doesn’t look like it just brought a whole showcase from the store or grabbed everything from pinterest. Because who the hell does that?! Common people do not live like that.

Therefore it has been my mission to style my home with practicality, and without breaking the bank. I source items that are practical and useful and also adhere to the “style” I wanted to create. I still believe that style isn’t expensive, but it does take thought and time. *ie, in looking for items for home I really stick to my guns and look for blues, greens or anything that will complement the items I have at home if there is none then I don’t buy. I have an assortment of plastic items (I have my balde and tabo in green and blue of course!), metal shelf, bargain stuff (daiso items) and even some local/native and hand me down items.

So this time I am sharing my real life home style – including items that I use and can be found in my home.

ecclectic modern tropical

welcome to our eclectic modern tropical home

Collected and comfy was my guiding principle in creating our home style. We worked around with the existing green bathroom on our home and build up around it. I used a calming analogous color scheme of blues and greens to create a cool and calm feel on our home. I got very much excited with creating the color palette as you can see above. I even added plants to make the home more inviting.

Every day has enough challenges, so it’s worth it to splurge on some of the items we use most, like a good smelling hand soap, or a cup of coffee…etc. Its about the little things that make everyday living less of a bore.

We usually have friends over so the most used area in our place is the dining and living. I made sure to get decent throw pillows, table ware, extra seating (in our color) some fun matching place mats and a picture frame that we personalized with a quote and our wifi passord! That simple frame got a lot of compliments. Because sometimes its the effort that counts.

Not bad right? To think most of our stuff are brought on sale!

While our home style continues to evolve and change what I love most about my home is:

It is my comfy place, the place where I can be myself.

The one I share it with.  ❤

cheap update

There are times that I pride myself in being frugal and then there are times that I just buy without much thought because the item is on SALE. There are those I get that is a really good buy and there are those that I ask myself what was I thinking?!

I usually love sale clothing. This is the latest sale item I got.

I blame my sister for dragging me inside the shop

clementine top I got from the plains and prints purple sale

I hate you Plains and Prints (but in a good way) you always seem to have one item I like in your store. Why? Yellow is not really a favorite of mine, but I got it because it looks happy and blindingly bright, its on sale.

Anything below 500php that is on sale, will always draw me in. Even better if its below 300php.

With that thought, I also love checking out H&M’s sale items for the home. Again, I don’t buy full price.

The latest I got from them was a grey glass vase that I still don’t know why I got it and where to place it. I just kept it in the cabinet.

the vase looks a lot like what I got, it set me back 200php. I did not get the mercury glass candle holder.

the vase looks a lot like what I got, it set me back 200php. Though pretty, I did not get the mercury glass candle holder.

While in their store I always check out their throw pillow covers. But I still haven’t bought any. I also had my eye on their mercury glass candle holders. But I know I can find something that looks alike for cheaper that their sale price. I’m a cheapskate. I know.

Table wares are also one of my favorite stuff. I recently paid a visit to Crate and Barrel and snapped up these sale items.  To pair with what I currently have.

I already had two botanica plates one in green and one in blue that we use daily. (we also got it on 50% off sale) Its about 109php each I think.

the more the many-er!

the more the many-er!

Since it is still on sale, I got two more botanica plates this time in red. To add to my red Corelle set that we are keeping for the holidays. Our Corelle set is a set of four and we have a 6 seater dining so we had to make two mismatched sets to go with it. Turns out the botanica plates are much darker than my Corelle, but its ok. It can work.

When we started decorating our home one of the first décor we had was a white ceramic ears up rabbit that we also got on sale from Crate and Barrel.

a pair at last

a pair at last

This time, we saw its ears down rabbit partner! On sale! So we got it too!

After all everything is better with a discount, am I right?!

My lovely bridesmaids threw me a surprise bridal shower! -Not posting group photos for the privacy of everyone involved! hahahaha! seriously, it was very wholesome, good food, great friends and a family get together all rolled into one party.

May I also add that the place looked superb?! I loved all the party decor! Most of the decor are a labor of love-DIY!!! – the venue is our soon to be home.

Standing slow clap for all the girls! And to my two MOHs-you have blown me away!

owl themed! =) Cake and cupcakes are gifts from my cousins- It is a Sugarbox fondant chocolate cake, the owl giveaways are lovingly prepared by Kei’s sister and my childhood friend! The super cute wedding dolls are from my childhood friend and churchmate!

Almost did not want to cut the cake because I find it too cute!!! However the chocolate cake inside is so good that I managed to eat a lot of it!

I felt so grateful and loved. –The prenup/wedding related posts would have to wait… I am still not over sorting the photos and since the wedding day is fast approaching I am really really busy.

Till the next post!
