Holing up

We had some minor home fix its and additions that had us holed up at home for the whole weekend. Good news is our bedroom ceiling is all patched up. –We had to damage the ceiling for our air conditioning unit to fit (there wasn’t enough space). While it does not look pretty, due to the fact that we did not restore the “original state” since we had to make sure that we can get the unit out in case we need to. That was day one. For that I am quite thankful.

By the evening, we hurriedly went back to Landmark-Makati in hopes of getting those (darned) white Christmas balls that we were supposed to get last week. Again, there were none. Arrggggh. So, we thought maybe it wasn’t really meant to be. We just have to get the white using other Christmas decor.

In the end we managed to complete our Christmas décor hunt. In our chosen colors- red, aqua and white.

red white and blue?

red white and aqua blue decor- say hello to our feathered Christmas birds!

Hopefully by Nov 30 our tree will be up.

Day two, we are back to sawing, painting, sanding, cleaning up sawdust, and plaster. We smoothed out plaster, wiped out wood glue, installed a hook for the Christmas chandelier, permanently placed the clock by using screws this time and not with command strips. #adulting

By night, we got this neat ladder/trellis type shelf up. –This is going to be decorative/storage space and emergency sampayan (indoor clothesline) in case of rainy days! We also had hooks attached to it so we can hang a swag for Christmas.

our multitasking ladder shelf

I am loving our newly made multitasking ladder shelf!

Not bad right. I am quite pleased with how it turned out! Also just in time for our upcoming “Friendsgiving”! -We called our close friends for a little get together before everyone gets too busy with the holidays.

Then we went out to Akira to celebrate. Having a Izakaya night on a Sunday. We deserved it for the hard workday/s. hahahaha!

feast for the tummy and eyes too!

I am very much excited to decorate and get the tree up for the festivities!

on a high

I was not expecting this. But it happened!

My lovely bridesmaids threw me a surprise bridal shower! -Not posting group photos for the privacy of everyone involved! hahahaha! seriously, it was very wholesome, good food, great friends and a family get together all rolled into one party.

May I also add that the place looked superb?! I loved all the party decor! Most of the decor are a labor of love-DIY!!! – the venue is our soon to be home.

Standing slow clap for all the girls! And to my two MOHs-you have blown me away!

surprised!

top-left to right: 1-surprised! 2-I got a sash! 3-we play games. the one in the photo is dress up the bride using tissue paper. bottom-left to right: 4-modeling my tissue paper gown 5-loads of food 6-they gave me gifts.

And they also got me a really really cute owl cake and cupcakes and owl giveaways too!

owl themed! =)

owl themed! =) Cake and cupcakes are gifts from my cousins- It is a Sugarbox fondant chocolate cake, the owl giveaways are lovingly prepared by Kei’s sister and my childhood friend! The super cute wedding dolls are from my childhood friend and churchmate!

Almost did not want to cut the cake because I find it too cute!!! However the chocolate cake inside is so good that I managed to eat a lot of it!

I felt so grateful and loved. –The prenup/wedding related posts would have to wait… I am still not over sorting the photos and since the wedding day is fast approaching I am really really busy.

Till the next post!

troubleshooting

Right now, one of my fur babies is sick. My brown bunny-Pepper is having a case of rabbit “head tilt“.

photos from the internet

photos from the internet

We already took her to the vet. Pepper had a antibiotic injection and was prescribed Polecin.

To be administered twice a day. Two drops on every ear.

By now I am also giving Trixy-the white bunny a drop of Polecin on each ear. Preventive measures.

Moving along, Our revised invites also came in. So, we are now contemplating on how to send all these to their recipients…

say hello to the trifold version!

say hello to the trifold version!

While doing that, I am also busy crafting/sewing. Yes another D.I.Y. project. I must be cray.

This time it is for my flower girls. Actually, I am quite happy with their dresses because they look like what I really wanted.

the dress before the flowers

At the shop: the girls dresses before the flowers, pardon the lighting. They look cute right? I am still waiting for the embellishments.

So fast forward to a few days after… the dresses now look like this.

just look at it.

Again pardon the lighting.

Ugh. Yes. I wanted applique flowers. But, not those reddish-purple flowers… It is not my color. I specifically asked for pastel colors. blush, lilac and peach. I got blush, purple and the reddish-purple color I hate. So, I had to get it fixed. But again since December is so near… there is no way the seamstress is going to get the time to make new flowers.

That leaves me with: take it as it is or create my own flowers.

I chose the latter. Again I blame my O.C. -ness.

So I created flower templates and got 3 yards of crystal organza (these are the shiny type of organza) -one yard per color.

I was still enthusiastic at this time

lilac, blush and peach- finally my colors! I was still excited with starting my project at this time…

And the madness starts. I began cutting out flowers of different sizes that turned out to hacking the fabric with scissors!

All the while asking myself why did I even start this madness?

after cutting

after hacking away the fabric and cleaning up a bit of my mess to make my table picture worthy…

After that photo I have no more decent photos as I was busy burning and sewing the fabric flowers. I will just tell you that it was not easy.

burn baby burn

I am having a hard time taking a photo of what I am doing and doing the burning so, this photo is just to give you an idea on what I am doing… do I even make sense?

Most of my flowers came out burnt, my hands are also a bit burned. My success rate is a mere 30%.

this one is a success!

this one is a success! so burn around five more (six per layers per flower) and sew them up.

So here is my weird and wonky burned flowers.

so out of ten

Out of ten flowers, only three make it.

And some of the wastage I managed to take a photo of… my nanny swept off most of my mess.

all this in one day

all this scraps in one day.

Of course finally the product of my burnt hands and sweat.

these are made with sweat and tears and shouting and gliter

these are made with sweat and tears.

I only managed to make around six flowers in a three/four hours – I do this after dinner before going to bed. Usually start making these around eight in the evening and throwing in the towel by twelve. I need around eight flowers and six tiny flowers per flower girl.

paper story: our invites

Kei gave me the free hand to create our invites. I count it as one of the perks of being a graphic artist, as I already have an idea of what I wanted our wedding invitations to look like.

But being Chinese we have to uphold certain traditions. Our Invitations have to be bilingual. Being quite of a rule breaker that I am, I know for sure that I am not going to have the traditional Chinese wedding invitation cards.

Sorry, but this is just so not us.

At home we have a shoebox full of wedding invites that look like this. T_T (photo from google)

But I am not about to go out and buy generically designed cards. I am going to create my own, our own. And get it printed.

I wanted something simple: no letterpress, gold foil or emboss, but I wanted to inject color to make it look happy and not so plain and of course, it must look modern. So the cost would be lower, and also to highlight the design and color. And if the budget would allow, I also wanted it to be on pearlescent paper. So I went to ask my best friend Google for inspiration.  I found these.

invitation inspiration all photos from google.

booklet type invitation inspiration (all photos from google)

I like the idea of a booklet type invitations. Beacuse I have to write everything twice, one in English and one in Chinese. I need a lot of pages!

So, I took that idea and went to create my awesome, modern bilingual invitations. I made two designs and got Kei to pick one, so that everything has Kei’s approval from the design to the paper stock.

I now present our draft/prototype! This was printed at home using our desktop printer and cream colored pearlescent board paper, and held together by two paper fasteners.

Bilingual ✓, color ✓ , pearl paper ✓=just what we wanted.

Bilingual ✓, color ✓ , pearl paper ✓ = just what we wanted.

Ours still feature the traditional Chinese symbol double happiness* 囍, which was modernized by making the 喜 “hug” the other 喜. Using soft colors instead of the usual red and gold gave it a more casual, romantic feel. Using pearlescent paper also made it look elegant. We also added bunnies inside!

*Double Happiness is a ligature, “囍” composed of 喜喜 – two copies of the Chinese characters 喜 () literally means joy, compressed to assume the square shape of a standard Chinese character (much like a real character may consist of two parts), and is pronounced as apolysyllabic Chinese character, being read as 双喜 (shuāngxǐ). -wikipedia

The invite was sectioned into three parts: The wedding- that includes everything about the ceremony. The Entourage- This page has everyone in the bridal party. Lastly, we have The RSVP- where we placed more information (what to wear, our instagram tags, facebook page…etc) regarding the event.

So, once we got our draft done, we got some of our friends (who has been-there-done-that) to check our handiwork. They thought it was the real thing! hahaha! It looked good. We had all the wordings down pat. One even commented that the look was so Pammy. I took that as a compliment. ^_^ Till we let one of our principal sponsors take a look of it. (Unknown to me, they are in the printing industry! *surprise surprise!* They would also like print our invites!!).

They asked us out for dinner meet-up they got us to choose paper stock for our wedding invites! So blessed! Just Wow!

Imagine our amazement when they handed over swatches of Prestige Paper Products and Fedrigoni Papers. They let us choose the one we like. I was over the moon! I love stationery and fancy paper! So many options all awesome paper! But we had to choose, and keeping in line with what we wanted we picked out Fedrigoni Papers for Indigo in Soho Sirio Pearl Polar Dawn.

It looks like this.

It looks like this. But the photo does not give it justice.

The photo does not give it justice at all. It has these iridescent rainbow flecks on a base of subtly shimmery cream paper. Prints and colors shows up well on the paper too! Awesome sauce pretty!

Now all we have to do is finalize the texts inside of the invites as we have a lot of changes in those.

-Need a Chinese graphic artist for your own invites? shoot me a message. ^_^

How I spent my last valentine as a single

I kept the days leading to valentines busy. (Not only at work.) I sourced/created/assembled my bridesmaids kits. It includes a letter, our love story, color palette, their roles, details on the day, and  something sparkly-earrings/something sweet-chocolate covered biscuit/something pretty-face mask for the bridesmaids.

*This is not usually done in the Philippines. We got the idea from the US, as some brides assemble kits for their bridesmaids. I decided to make my girls kits to inform them of the wedding details and place a smile on their faces.

ready to be assembled kits!

To give you a better view of all the paper inside… I customized everything! Save for the huge pink box. Those are store brought.

Gave my bridesmaids the boxes and they all loved it! *I am happy! All the effort was worth it!*

On the course of the week I also managed to do some catching up with all the lovely people in my life.

valentine week

valentine week

I had a lovely Fri-date with my best friend Joanna (we call each other Lupet). Finally watched a movie (that thing called tadhana) with my workmate.  Had dinner with the family and got a lot of sweet (valentine) gifts!

But, not everything is rosy. My eye infection is back again, diagnosed on Feb 9 and is currently under medication until (hopefully) next week.  So I’m wearing my glasses (nerd mode) the whole time!

And as always, Kei and I spent the Valentine’s day late. We celebrated it on the 15th. Kei took me out for dinner at 22 Prime. (Wow! I know! Too bad I don’t have decent photos as the place was dim. )

Photo taken from 22 Prime's Facebook

For all the troubles valentine brings, I made sure Kei also got something.

Kei's TMNT Donatello

Kei’s TMNT Donatello

I got him a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Donatello toy. Very unique right? hahahaha!

*The toy was his childhood frustration. He wanted a Donatello toy,  and told his dad he wanted the purple one. But for some reason his dad mistakenly got him a TMNT villain (kalaban) toy! That made him very sad!

So, that was my week.

My last valentine as a single. ❤

replacing buttons

Last Saturday, I tried my hand in repairing/upgrading two of my clothes. (Saturday’s post is here

These are the clothes that needs new buttons. The abused, comfy, fave blue nautical sleeveless one lost one of its buttons and the lilac shirt dress we got on sale with the awful pearl-ish buttons (they have to go!). *I sort of dislike pearls, for me pearls are for the more mature group… but that’s just my opinion*

the before

My project -the before shot

Got all my materials from Michelle’s located in Tutuban Mall in Divisoria. (They sell their buttons by the dozen and the place is a crafter’s wonderland.. full of beads, buttons, ribbons, lace, etc. But, as with most crafting stores, the storekeepers are hardly any help at all.)

thread, button and reciept

thread, button and receipt

Then I went to work. Sewing felt therapeutic for me. I chatted with my sister while D.I.Y.-ing the clothes. Till I have attached the last button. I am quite happy to have restored the blue nautical sleeveless shirt using the plain white buttons. The lilac shirt dress also looked better with the berry colored flower buttons! *looks more age appropriate for me! hahahaha!*’

finished project -new buttons!

finished project -new buttons!

I am pleased with how the project turned out, wearable clothes again! Also happy to have spent time with my sister. Not bad for someone who almost flunked Home Economics.

While writing this, I am wearing the comfy blue one right now.
