fall favorites

We just finished the prenup shoot! ❤ So, I am back to blogging.

I’m just sharing the products that make me feel happy, pretty, girly-girl awesome. Even if I am a frazzled mess.

Nothing soothes my nerves quite like looking good.

Shallow, I know. But honey that is my therapy!

It sure is irrational that I go and get a lot of products and not use them everyday, I only use them on weekends. But I am still a girl and I’m just fascinated by makeup, dresses, and nail polish. Being pretty in general, like it would improve my quality of life?!

So, these are rightfully my fall favorites.

taken with my mobile phone- pardon the picture quality.

Since it’s fall season I darkened up my lips a notch. Currently alternating L’Oreal Paris collection star by Freida Pinto in Pure Rouge and Mac Rebel. These colors make me look polished and mature even if I only have baby powder on my face. -Added bonus: they make my teeth and skin look a lot whiter.

On my eyes, I am still on a roll with smokey eyes as it makes my tiny eyes look bigger and more awake. So the Urban Decay Naked Smoky eye shadow palette my cousin Jackie sent me gets a lot of love. I even managed to use it to create light eyes.

Depending on the color of the metal accessories I wear, I got metallic nail polish to match on my very short child like nails. I am using Zoya in Ziv (gold) and Trixy (silver). The nail polish is to add a bit of festive sparkle, after all it is only a few weeks to Christmas.

*All my reviews, opinions, and other stuff expressed here are my own and based on my own experience with the product. This is not a sponsored post, I paid for these (from) my own pocket, save for the eye shadows those were gifed to me by my cousin.

much, much darker than expected a review: L’oreal Paris Excellence Fashion Hair Dye In 6.35 Intense Copper Brown

beforeI have half-half hair. I meant half brown, half black. My roots are on full show.

See photo on the right.  I don’t really like it, I mean who wants ugly roots showing?

Been dying my hair for years now and my goal is always a evenly toned medium to light brown hair. For most of the time, I dye myself using a box of hair dye. It is convenient that way.

Not to mention doing my hair at home is loads cheaper too!

So, I went out to look for a new hair color! And spotted the L’Oréal booth (in Sm department  store at Makati) that offers free application upon purchase of their boxed hair dyes! I hurriedly went to ask how to avail the free application. Then I go choose hair dyes. Sadly, there are not much to choose from, but eh… choosy pa ba ako?! Go na lang ng go!

*my mum’s go to brand for hair dye is loreal.  So I decided to try it out too.

And since I am a huge sucker for beautiful packaging, the new boxes got my attention. The time I arrived (lunch time), there are only two colors from their new collection. Intense copper brown and Violet brown. I picked the intense copper brown thinking that it will be lighter, thus showing up better on my dark hair.

I went to buy one box of Intense copper brown then went back to get another one.

I usually use one box of hair dye, but since I am trying to grow my hair longer I have to use two now. >_<

this photo was taken at home. after I got my hair done, I took home one of the box.

This photo was taken at home. After I got my hair done, I took home one of my two boxes. Of course the tube of color is now used up, so this is a slightly incomplete set.

Opening the box you will get to see the standard set: tube of colorant, color developer, instruction leaflet with gloves, hair serum, and the after color conditioner.

Cutting to the chase, I waited in line for my hair color application, after I filled up a survey form.

There were a lot of ladies waiting in line!!!

Then it was my turn.

the process

looking like a egghead is part of the process of getting my hair done! lols!

Quickly hopped on the chair and let the Loreal trained staff do her magic on my hair. I used up two boxes of the product! They did a good job in sectioning my hair and applying the product thickly.

*Hindi nila tinipid, talagang sinimot ang two boxes!

Of course the dye smelled a bit strong, but it did not sting at all! The product felt creamy. The light colored mixture of colorant + cream developer turned out darker and darker as the time progressed. Once my hair was covered with the hair dye, I have to wait for 45 mins for the color to develop before rinsing.

While rinsing, the staff asked me what color did I use. I told him that I got the new 6.35 Intense Copper Brown. He gasped and said out loud that he was worried. Honestly, I am worried too. Apparently the color I picked does not really show up on dark haired people, they got complaints about it.  Sad-ness.

Looks like I made the wrong move.

This was the result of the wait.

it was dark. real darker than what i expected.

It was dark. Real darker than what I expected. It looks like my natural hair color.

So, I went home to gauge the reaction of the family… My parents took one look at me and said: o, bumalik ka na sa tunay na buhok mo?! (You went back to your natural hair color?!)

Yeah, I look like I did not color my hair at all. The color only shows up on Intense light (pun intended).

The next morning after I took a bath, I quickly checked my hair again.

the final color

the final color

Got the box and looked at my hair again, and again and tried to take a photo under the bright indoor light.

Real dark, way dark. I really wanted to like this product but I was let down. I might consider getting my hair dyed after resting it for a month or two. I personally felt more comfortable with lighter hair.

Bottom line: I think Loreal hair dyes is made for those who wanted to cover grey/white hairs.  For the mature set. Or those looking for a dark hair dye after getting bleached blond hair. This would work really well. I also liked that after getting my hair dyed with Loreal it did not become dry, instead it appears to have improved the condition of my hair.

*The L’oreal Paris Excellence Fashion Hair Dye booth can be found in SM Department Store in Makati. The free application service will be available till July 23, 2015. See their facebook page for more of their promos.

**All my reviews, opinions, and other stuff expressed here are my own and based on my own experience with the product. This is not a sponsored post, I paid for this (from) my own pocket. *Price? I got one box for 495php. Since I got two boxes i paid 990php.

How we spent labor weekend: aka our Gay-bordate shopping weekend

So, most people we know are off to Boracay to spend the labor day weekend. Being true blue city-girl-mall-rats….my best friend and me have decided that labor day will be dedicated to hunting items from our Christmas wish list (last year 2014) but with the premise of getting the said stuff on sale or discount.

So, Joanna wanted a Marc Jacobs Henry Skeleton Watch, I was looking for Miss Dior EDP preferably the 100ml bottle. Those were the specific item we are hunting for. Since both items are pricey. We looked at every possible option to obtain them for cheaper. (That means we spent the past few months, going to Rustans, Cash and carry, Shangri-la and even looking for it online.) Till this weekend. It was do or die. We are going to wing it.

This is going to be a girly shopping day. Hence, Gay-bor date.

With Kei in tow, off we go to Cash and Carry to look for the Miss Dior edp. I asked store after store to no avail.

close but not really the one. sorry.

close but not really the one. sorry.

Started with Bescost (they only have the old miss dior originale with the full houndstooth patterened bottle see top left photo), then to Criseldas’s (that only has the miss dior blooming bouquet variant see top right photo), Tia Loleng’s ( no miss dior here), till I saw it at Anselka’s! A 100ml bottle with the gold/amber liquid! Was grinning with excitement.

hollo lovely!

hello lovely!

I hurriedly dragged Jo to Anselka’s and showed her the bottle. Checked it for authenticity and went on to get the loot. Mad happy really.

Next, we went to meet Jo’s Dad and he drove us/treated us to a sumptuous lunch at Tim Ho Wan. That porkbun was melt in the mouth yums! Lunch was so awesome we finished lunch in less than an hour. I also learned a few Cantonese phrases over lunch. Also added a new food fave  – Lo mai gai. That my friends, is steamed glutinous rice in lotus leaf.

eating out with the HK peeps!

So after lunch our group went to meet our childhood friend Geordan, plus his parents. Chatted up a bit and it was time for them to go. Jo’s dad also went home.  With only the three of us are walking around Glorietta, Kei and I went to introduce Adora to Joanna. She loved the place! She is familiar with the bags! And proceeded to give me a crash course on bag appreciation. Fancy stuff. After the bags, I got her to try Penhaligon’s scents. After a few sniffs on the testers, she ended up liking what I liked best – Empressa. We like patchouli. Hahaha!

Then looked at the watches on display. Little did I know, the watch Jo likes was on display! And an added bonus, on sale.

finally found you.

finally found you.

She has been looking for it for a while now. Her initial pick was the rose gold version of the Marc Jacobs Henry Skeleton watch, but seeing this lovely gold version made her change her mind. Few more minutes waiting for it to get adjusted, Joanna got her loot! With a gift with purchase sticky note pad! Score!

So we went to have a afternoon coffee to escape the summer heat.

Then proceeded to take outfit of the day pictures. Sun dresses are the in thing for the day!

Come dinner, we get Joanna to try one of our fave food haunt Kitchitora. We both got Paitan ramen sets. So that she gets to sample the different appetizers.

Kei got tsukemen as expected. Here is our whole spread.

Joanna loved the place and the food! Good one Kitchitora!

After dinner we chatted a bit then its time to go home. To cap it all off here is our loot for the day.

*Much thanks to Kei for accompanying us, being the photographer for the day and helping us find our stuff! Our only regret is we did not take picture with Joanna’s dad and Geordan plus his parents. Next time… Overall it is a good day for shopping.

Next day was Saturday. It was a normal work day for me. And also did all my grooming rounds. By that I mean going to the dermatologist and dentist. Kei prepared his presentation for church tomorrow. We spent the day at home watching big bang theory and eating chickenjoy,  heaps of palabok + Chinese take out dinner,  all of which are drowned with buko juice. We are cool like that. hahaha!

Sunday was a Yes and No day. YES that Kei pulled off the church activity he planned perfectly. All is well till Pacquiao lost. That was the NO. Bummer.

We ran off to the mall again, where else?! hahaha! the afternoon was spent on retail therapy. We tried Old Navy as we heard that they make good looking comfy-casual clothes and that their pant/s selection is good! Meaning they carry a wide range of pant sizes! So, Kei tried on pants and I tried on dresses.

Here are the ones I tried on. From left to right: White eyelet dress (no xs size so not for me), the middle and right are the same design, only the middle is a swiss dot design and the right one is in stripes. All my picks are 100% cotton fabric. I hate polyester.

all pretty!

all pretty! photos taken from old navy

He got two pants one in denim and another in khaki. I got two dresses. The swiss dot and the stripe. After that we doused our hot temper in iced macchiato and went back to grab our new found fave porkbuns. Then ate a lot again for dinner.

this is

this helped us feel better. but our wallet does not feel better. lols.

This sums up our weekend. We eat and shop.

How did you spend you labor weekend?

been stalking

I have been stalking a dress.

store

Plains and Prints Robinsons Manila

That dress! The one Anne Curtis is wearing. I saw that huge poster around the last few days of November.

Asked for the said dress. It was still unavailable.

So, I bide my time waiting for the dress… went to different malls to look for it. Nothing.

Kei suggested we try looking at Shangri-la Mall. (this mall seems to have most of the stuff we are looking for) So we went.

We learned that the dress I want is is named Tokushima, from the Modern Metropolis collection. A limited edition and is already sold out.

So with no Tokushima dress on sight I looked for the other dresses from their Modern Metropolis collection. Two caught my eye. The Johannesburg and Moscow.

photo form plains and prints website

The  Johannesburg to the left and Moscow on the right. (photo from plains and prints website)

Tried them on and got the Johannesburg, as Kei likes it better than the other.

So, off I went, happy to get a dress. But I still wanted to see and try on the Tokushima.

Not one to give up, I tried calling all the branches of their store to look for the coveted dress. Again I was told that it is a limited edition, and apparently they made 50pcs for their preview, and another 50 was distributed to the other stores. Only 100 dresses are made. Tokushima was only made in sizes s, and xs.

My chances are slim. Only one Tokushima dress is left. In xs (my size!) and it is reserved.

Arrrggghhhh! Oh well, but still hopeful …we left our number. In case the one who reserved it did not get the dress.

After a day we got a call from Plains and Prints Greenbelt. It is now reserved to me!

Along with Kei we went to get the Tokushima.  Once in my hands I was a bit surprised that the Tokushima is not white but a pale shade of lilac grey. (was fooled by the posters!) But I like lilac. So it is not a problem for me. I went on to fit the dress and it did fit nicely.

The attendants also wanted me to try on their Madrid dress.

photos from plains and prints website

Madrid was the one they kept recommending to me when they learned that I was looking for the Tokushima. I liked the color of madrid but it looks poofy on me. When I tried it on, I look shorter than the usual so, even if its pretty, its a no for me.

I got the Tokushima. Finally.

My plains and prints dresses

my plains and prints purchases

I got two dresses. The Johannesburg from Shangrila in the medium sized orange box with three ponds freebies inside! And the Tokushima from Greenbelt in the small green box.

*Price?  1898php per dress.

I may have emotional attachment to shoes

As I reached for the shoebox and pulled out the shoe inside, my heart sank. My favorite party shoe has split apart.

It is a Qupid studded tapue wedge shoe that I had since December of 2009. Yes. It has survived that long.

shoes-wedges-el-hazel-09taupesupu

Worn only when I attend parties and kept in the shoebox right after. I love this shoe! It instantly adds a punch to any of my outfits, and kept me looking taller than I really am. Added bonus, it’s a wedge! I saved up my allowance for this beauty. At that time if I remember correctly I got it for around 3k. Plus a month of waiting for it to be shipped to the Philippines.

I was planning to wear it for another happy occasion. But it was already gone.

Packed my beloved shoe and planned to get it repaired. I still wanted to save it, I want it back!

As I was wandering at the mall, I saw the sale sign at Aldo. Thinking that they usually have pretty shiny accessories there, I sauntered to their accessories. Yes, they are on sale but they don’t have anything to my liking at that time.

I glanced around the store and looked at their shoes. Before me was this stunner.

aldoRALEVIA

Found myself trying the shoe. It is on sale. From its original price of almost 4k, it is now down to 2k.

I like the shoe, it fits and it looks good on my feet!

This could work as a party shoe, I thought. Sold. I got the shoes.

Loved my new shoe! Got a nice spot for it on my shoe rack. Then immediately felt sorry for my old shoe. I spent the money on the new one. When I sort of promised my old shoe that it would be restored to life.

Now do I save my old shoe or throw it away?

Ever had an emotional attachment to (your) shoes? Or I’m just plain weird.

purpose of my #ootd

I love my clothes. Clothes are my armor.

Clothes are powerful. Because clothes can either attract or repel people.

People can take one look at your clothes and sort of figure out your personality, status, age…etc.

photo from moldiva.com

photo from moldiva.com

I wear a t-shirt, pants and rubber shoes to work daily. I purposely dress like shit that… That means no fancy stuff: no accessories, a plain watch, a rather plain rubber shoe. I even wear my nerd glasses. I wear my bag as a frontpack. (wearing the backpack to the front, and by doing so it will cover your stomach and you look like a pregnant human) Not appealing or fashionable at all.

But it sort of works. The plain-ness repel attention from muggers (when you are living and commuting) in Manila, there are a lot of them everywhere, they take a good look at everyone on the street or public jeepney and figure out who will be their next prey. On muggers eyes: well dressed=Money-ed.

My clothes act as my camouflage. To blend in the crowd. Which is hard to do since I look a bit foreign with my yellow skin and tiny eyes.  I have to look as plain as possible. My workplace is male dominated. So, it is really better to dress like the males.

On weekends however, I go all out. I dress nicely. Drop my glasses and trade them for contact lenses.

I make sure my dresses go with the bag, shoes and accessories. Make sure I look good before I leave the house. And that I look feminine. after 5 days of purposely dressing like a slob, on weekends I dress to stand out.

At times, I almost feel like I am living two separate lives.

In something as simple as a change of clothes.

i want a new pair of shoes

I love shoes. Shoes doesn’t judge. Shoes don’t care whether you are a size XS or size L.

Personally, I like to buy shoes and keep them, stored in their boxes. I will be happy looking at them and trying them on from time to time. I choose the occasion where I wear my shoes. I do however have shoes that are worn for daily abuse, for weekends, and those shoes that I keep for special occasions.

For a female, I have a few shoes. too few at times when I think of it.

The shoes I own are: 2 pairs of DC rubber shoes for daily work wear (we wear casual clothes in the office), 4 pairs of Fitflop sandals for my weekend feet comfort (thanks to my best friend), 1 Qupid nude suede wedge (for parties), 1 Charles and Keith white heels (used for my cousin’s wedding), 1 Charles and Keith black step in (corporate days), 1 Charles and Keith grey/wooden platforms (when I am feeling short), 1 Celine peach cork summer wedge (for my I am feeling girly days), 1 metallic pewter step in ( I forgot the brand, for parties) and the 1 Rusty Lopez black strappy sandals (used for my college PE dancing days, eons ago)

A total of 13 pairs of shoes. I only use the half on normal days. (Rubber shoes and Fitflops) the rest are properly tucked in their boxes, waiting for a special day.

I want a new pair of shoes. (Because 13 is not a good number I really have to add another one. -the lame excuse)

I want in on the sneaker wedge craze. The chunky, rubber shoe looking with height adding bonus. Been staring at them for over two months now.

If after a month the “fashion want” doesn’t go away, I start saving for it. I have my eyes on a black sneaker wedge from Skechers. I want it to add variety to my weekend shoes. And also to hide my huge scar of a blister in the middle of my left foot (ironically, from a shoe).
