Searching for the wedding gown: The Adorata experience

While watching TV, I learned that local celebrity Kim Chiu opened up a bridal store in partnership with local designer for the celebrities Pepsi Herrera and Edwin Tan.  And their appeal is that they would offer designer fashion at a budget friendly price.  (Their selections range from P35,000 to P120,000)

Pepsi Herrera’s celebrity clients includes Kris Aquino, Regine Velasquez, Julia Montes and Kim Chiu. Edwin Tan, on the other hand, has designed for Kristine Hermosa, Claudine Barretto, and Luis Manzano.

Wow. I have high expectations for this one.

I excitedly called Kei to tell him about Adorata.  And did what I do best, I googled for them, I looked at pictures of their press releases but, since it is fairly new. Nothing much is to be seen. So, we decided to simply visit the shop.

We went on February 14, 2014 a Saturday afternoon after work. We did find their shop easily enough.

A sullen lady storekeeper met us, in a dim store. We don’t know if the store was supposed to be closed or what? She just continued on texting. Then she opened the air conditioner then went back to her desk to again text. She didn’t even try to hold a conversation, a question for a answer. Ugh, Really felt like a nuisance in the store.

We just looked the gowns on display. They have lots of ball gowns here, and almost all of them were corset back. Not exactly the type that I was looking for.  But hey, Kim Chiu does really wear a lot of ball gowns so maybe this was their signature style.

Keeping an open mind, we picked out 3 gowns to try. Then we asked the lady storekeeper where I could fit the dress. She was not really talking, or smiling at all it’s as if we were a nuisance to her texting. She just looked at us and walked away. Oh well, lets just get this over with huh?

So, she got the first dress. Opened up the clear protective bag, got the dress out and handed it over.  Just like that.

The first dress is a v-neck ballgown, with corset back. tulle fabric with beading.

It is pouf-y. I dislike the boob area of this one. Que horror! looks like nipples showing through!

A big fat NO.

The second dress was a boat neck, illusion neckline with appliqued lace. No beading.

Better than the first, but not exactly my type.

The third is an A-line, with portrait back.

better than the first two, but this gown has to be cleaned. You don't see it but its hemline is dirty.

not a ballgown.

Better than the first two, but still a NO.

We then asked for the price. True to their promise the gowns are within their budget range. But this experience, was real awful. From the sullen storekeeper, some gowns have dirt on the hemlines. We left feeling really sad, a bit insulted, overall a major, major disappointment.

That sums up our Adorata experience.

Taking photos is allowed. Walk-ins are welcome.

Boutique– Their shop is sparse but still functional. The floor is not clean as I hoped it would be. No platform.

Gowns– I only got to fit 3. I can say their style (ball gowns) would look really good on tall brides to be. Moderate bead works. My gripe, their gowns are not clean (please look at the hemlines and clean them), they don’t have different silhouettes. They just concentrated on ball gowns.  No clamps, no bathrobe, no shoes.

Fitting room– limited space, visually unappealing. But, it will do. No clean floor, No platform.

Lighting– decent enough.

Price– P35,000 to P120,000.

Friendliness– The storekeeper looks like we disturbed her texting marathon.

P.S.-We still like Kim Chiu. But not her shop, or her shopkeeper.

searching for the wedding gown: Mi Sueño experience (part 1)

Since I have been looking at the internet for ideas/wedding planning. I thought I would give back and share mine too. So, today I will share about my first encounter with Mi Sueño bridal boutique.

Kei and I found them when we went to a wedding fair on SMX early this year (at that time, we were just looking around; we didn’t even have a wedding date yet). They have around four wedding gown clad mannequins on display. We admired the gowns, and chatted with the Mi Sueño ladies and soon enough we were writing our names on a clipboard, scheduling an appointment with them.

We learned that Mi Sueño is the first bridal boutique that offers ready to wear wedding gowns from Barcelona, Spain. Basically, you get to see your gown/glimpse of how you are going to look like on your big day! And the gowns are made from Spain! Its available to Philippine brides to be! Just wow!

They carry the brand Pronovias and Atelier Diagonal- a Pronovias label on a smaller budget.

I googled a lot after the bridal fair! I looked at pictures of wedding gowns on Pinterest and other wedding related websites. I saved a lot of pictures. I have already set my heart on a particular style of gown.

So off we went on February 8, 2014 a Saturday afternoon after work. I was very giddy with excitement! I am going to try on gowns! I was awestruck with their boutique.

We were met with cheerful smiles from the Mi Sueño ladies and was asked to fill out a form, then they also asked me what type of gown would I prefer to fit. I said I wanted to try on a mermaid/fit and flare silhouette.
I knew this would flatter me as I am petite, non-traditional, would love to show my curves but I still have apprehensions as I have a figure that is rounder in the hips and thighs, because mermaid gowns can over-emphasize the hips. So, what better way to know than to test it out.
The ladies said they have three Pronovias gowns that has the mermaid/fit and flare silhouette.
The dresses are European sizes so it is going to be huge for me. But not to worry, they have clamps to hold the dress! I was also told that they estimated that I am a size two. Whatever that is… I’m excited!

So they brought out the first dress. It was named USANA.

It is soft, has a float-y feel to it and can actually be worn two ways! With a lace overlay or bare. It has spaghetti straps and a daring back design. It was lovely and all but it didn’t fit me. The back has a very plunging design, and when I wore the overlay it makes me look fat. When worn bare, it looks too revealing. I’m not posting back pictures for this as it shows my bra. Ugh.

This is me, trying out the pronovias usana. (left:bare, right:with overlay)

Kei was shaking his head with this one.
USANA is definitely not for me.

Then they let me try another gown. This was named FELICIA.
It was all lace. This was clamped to the limit!
But I have to say I like the train of this one, and the neckline! It looks classic and romantic and a bit loose on me even when clamped.

Kei was too overwhelmed with the lace of this one. But we both agreed it was better than the first.

We still have another gown to try.

On to the last dress. It was named FAUNA.
They have it in size 4 and 2! And they are going to let me try both. Lucky me!
It was pleated, sculptural looking with lots and lots of soft ruffles. I was told it was made from silk organza.
So, I gave it a try. Even in size 2 it still has to be clamped but it really looks good on me.

Do I really have that hourglass shape?! Trying on pronovias fauna

I really had apprehensions with the sweetheart neckline as I have a really small rack. But it actually works the opposite way. When you have a small rack opt for a sweetheart neckline, as it gives the illusion that you have the upper bumpers. Wink, wink!

The last gown I tried, pronovias fauna.

The last gown I tried, pronovias fauna in size2.

This gown really shows of my curves without overwhelming my figure.

Kei looks approvingly. He told me that this was the best of the three.

Then the Mi Sueño ladies got a veil and proceeded to let me try it on.

With the veil on. Excuse my eyebags.

And the last test, they let me sit down on a chair if I felt comfy enough. I was grinning nonstop.

The final test: sitting down wearing the gown.

The final test: sitting down wearing the gown.

We then got the price quotation. But this being our first experience with looking for my wedding gown, we did not get anything. We would still want to keep our options open. We left the place feeling absolutely happy.

That sums up our first Mi Sueño experience.

*We still see the ladies on bridal fairs after the fitting experience. I think we are friends with them now. We smile and wave, exchange stories and go on our way.

Taking photos is allowed. Appointments are a must.

Boutique– Their shop is really beautiful and tidy. We loved it!
Gowns– I only got to fit pronovias gowns. Their gowns feature classic silhouettes, gorgeous lace, and best of all a hidden corset with boning! (Makes your tummy look sexy, slim and flat!) They have clamps to make the gown fit. They would alter the gown to fit you perfectly once you decide that you are going to take the gown.  My only gripe, their gowns don’t have any bead works. I love sparkly stuff!
Fitting room– Clean and spacious. But, they don’t have a bathrobe for you to cover up in between changes. It feels a bit awkward in a state of un-dress walking around the area with the Mi Sueño ladies helping you to dress up.
Good for me, that day I’m wearing a cotton half slip and a strapless bra. I suggest you do that too.
Lighting– They have good lighting!
Price– Pronovias range from P65,000 – P175,000. While Atelier Diagonal gowns range from P35,000 – P60,000.
Friendliness– The ladies are really accommodating and friendly, easy to talk to and are very organized and attentive. Composed and very professional.
