our craziest christmas shopping adventure yet

Last Sunday, Kei announced that we are going to Trinoma. He wanted to check out a Ramen restaurant that his brother recommended, and will (finally) go hunting for Christmas stuff for the home.

Before we headed out, I checked about what events are in Trinoma… apparently there is a mall wide sale -nice, because I thought we could go look for some Christmas ornaments,  and Plains & Prints are having a preview of their holiday collection! Of course I wanted to check it out!

Off we go to our first stop.

Their specialty is pork ramen… although I am not that fond of pork, I am pleased with their ramen! as well as their green tea!

We are sure to be back!

Next we wandered off in search for Plains & Prints. We found it easily enough and true to what I saw online there is a preview shopping for their holiday collection!

There were a lot of people inside the store and the fitting room was packed! I saw some dresses that I already saw online. After trying on some dresses. We agreed on one -the Tigerlily dress. It features cap sleeves, a rather structured cut and embroidered lace detail on one side, in a deep red color.

The dress I got. Tigerlily dress.

The dress I got. It has a Cersei Lannister feel to it-not that I am complaining. I am just happy to have it in my size.

I can wear this up to Chinese new year because of the color. While the cashier wraps the dress in the box, Kei jokingly chants “long may she reign” -in reference to game of thrones Cersei Lannister. Such a geek. lols.

I got one red dress. Not bad.

Done with Plains& Prints. Since we are off from a good start, we thought going to find Christmas ornaments would be easy. -We are going for red, aqua and white color theme for our tree.

we are going for this color combination

we are going for this color combination

We looked at TrueValue (they have a sale too) and went out with two boxes of shatterproof ornaments (we got medium sized red and aqua balls) and a string of rice lights.

Next would be looking for the white balls and some smaller red and aqua to add dimension to the tree decor. -Thinking that Landmark Trinoma would have lots of white decor, we trooped to the department store only to find out that there are no more white decor left. Somebody brought all the white decor in bulk. Not one to back down from our chosen color theme, and also to finish our Christmas stuff we thought of going to Landmark Makati. And we really did go.

After a few mins of traffic, we arrived at SM Makati.  And promptly got distracted by one of our favorite store -Crate and Barrel. They are offering 50% off in their Christmas items. They are so thoughtful to offer that! Of course I have to hunt down the Christmas chandelier I wanted.

This was the price before.

Since I really like the chandelier, I took this photo hoping that it goes on sale and I can justify getting one.

Looks like I got my wish granted. The chandelier’s price went down to below 1k.

Of course I had to have it. But there is a catch. There are only two remaining and both of them are used as store display. Both have their box missing in action. We thought to hell with it, just a box anyway we will just get another box.

So we got it. Along with a tiny white photo frame ornament that has 2015 engraved on it -since 2015 is our wedding year we could place our wedding photo there.

Kei feels right at home with the soft pillows.

And we shopped while seated in the “exhibit” area of Crate and Barrel in the middle of the mall. – So much win! Much thanks Crate and Barrel Makati team!

After getting the chandelier we went for a quick grocery shopping and left everything at the package counter. So we can get right back to going to Landmark and getting the white and smaller ornaments.

It was while walking to Landmark that we noticed people running. Confused and a bit worried, we got “adopted” by Octagon and let us stay at their store. Apparently fire broke out in Glorietta 3. Causing panic to a lot of shoppers. After a few mins. We were all let out. This was mission abort-our shopping trip has to stop.

Kei and I calmly walked back to SM Makati, back to Crate&Barrel then to the supermarket package counter to get our stuff and go.

On the way home we stopped by Cash and Carry to have Jollibee for a quick dinner and found a cute striped shirt for Kei- that we got and then we went home.

So yeah. This was by far our craziest shopping trip ever. – I mean we do multiple mall runs on a day but going to multiple malls and having some sort of action drama tops the list.

Hopefully this coming weekend we can complete our tree.

How we spent labor weekend: aka our Gay-bordate shopping weekend

So, most people we know are off to Boracay to spend the labor day weekend. Being true blue city-girl-mall-rats….my best friend and me have decided that labor day will be dedicated to hunting items from our Christmas wish list (last year 2014) but with the premise of getting the said stuff on sale or discount.

So, Joanna wanted a Marc Jacobs Henry Skeleton Watch, I was looking for Miss Dior EDP preferably the 100ml bottle. Those were the specific item we are hunting for. Since both items are pricey. We looked at every possible option to obtain them for cheaper. (That means we spent the past few months, going to Rustans, Cash and carry, Shangri-la and even looking for it online.) Till this weekend. It was do or die. We are going to wing it.

This is going to be a girly shopping day. Hence, Gay-bor date.

With Kei in tow, off we go to Cash and Carry to look for the Miss Dior edp. I asked store after store to no avail.

close but not really the one. sorry.

close but not really the one. sorry.

Started with Bescost (they only have the old miss dior originale with the full houndstooth patterened bottle see top left photo), then to Criseldas’s (that only has the miss dior blooming bouquet variant see top right photo), Tia Loleng’s ( no miss dior here), till I saw it at Anselka’s! A 100ml bottle with the gold/amber liquid! Was grinning with excitement.

hollo lovely!

hello lovely!

I hurriedly dragged Jo to Anselka’s and showed her the bottle. Checked it for authenticity and went on to get the loot. Mad happy really.

Next, we went to meet Jo’s Dad and he drove us/treated us to a sumptuous lunch at Tim Ho Wan. That porkbun was melt in the mouth yums! Lunch was so awesome we finished lunch in less than an hour. I also learned a few Cantonese phrases over lunch. Also added a new food fave  – Lo mai gai. That my friends, is steamed glutinous rice in lotus leaf.

So after lunch our group went to meet our childhood friend Geordan, plus his parents. Chatted up a bit and it was time for them to go. Jo’s dad also went home.  With only the three of us are walking around Glorietta, Kei and I went to introduce Adora to Joanna. She loved the place! She is familiar with the bags! And proceeded to give me a crash course on bag appreciation. Fancy stuff. After the bags, I got her to try Penhaligon’s scents. After a few sniffs on the testers, she ended up liking what I liked best – Empressa. We like patchouli. Hahaha!

Then looked at the watches on display. Little did I know, the watch Jo likes was on display! And an added bonus, on sale.

finally found you.

finally found you.

She has been looking for it for a while now. Her initial pick was the rose gold version of the Marc Jacobs Henry Skeleton watch, but seeing this lovely gold version made her change her mind. Few more minutes waiting for it to get adjusted, Joanna got her loot! With a gift with purchase sticky note pad! Score!

So we went to have a afternoon coffee to escape the summer heat.

Then proceeded to take outfit of the day pictures. Sun dresses are the in thing for the day!

Come dinner, we get Joanna to try one of our fave food haunt Kitchitora. We both got Paitan ramen sets. So that she gets to sample the different appetizers.

Kei got tsukemen as expected. Here is our whole spread.

Joanna loved the place and the food! Good one Kitchitora!

After dinner we chatted a bit then its time to go home. To cap it all off here is our loot for the day.

*Much thanks to Kei for accompanying us, being the photographer for the day and helping us find our stuff! Our only regret is we did not take picture with Joanna’s dad and Geordan plus his parents. Next time… Overall it is a good day for shopping.

Next day was Saturday. It was a normal work day for me. And also did all my grooming rounds. By that I mean going to the dermatologist and dentist. Kei prepared his presentation for church tomorrow. We spent the day at home watching big bang theory and eating chickenjoy,  heaps of palabok + Chinese take out dinner,  all of which are drowned with buko juice. We are cool like that. hahaha!

Sunday was a Yes and No day. YES that Kei pulled off the church activity he planned perfectly. All is well till Pacquiao lost. That was the NO. Bummer.

We ran off to the mall again, where else?! hahaha! the afternoon was spent on retail therapy. We tried Old Navy as we heard that they make good looking comfy-casual clothes and that their pant/s selection is good! Meaning they carry a wide range of pant sizes! So, Kei tried on pants and I tried on dresses.

Here are the ones I tried on. From left to right: White eyelet dress (no xs size so not for me), the middle and right are the same design, only the middle is a swiss dot design and the right one is in stripes. All my picks are 100% cotton fabric. I hate polyester.

all pretty!

all pretty! photos taken from old navy

He got two pants one in denim and another in khaki. I got two dresses. The swiss dot and the stripe. After that we doused our hot temper in iced macchiato and went back to grab our new found fave porkbuns. Then ate a lot again for dinner.

this is

this helped us feel better. but our wallet does not feel better. lols.

This sums up our weekend. We eat and shop.

How did you spend you labor weekend?

The runaway shoe: My wedding shoes

Kei and I found the shoe months ago, at the store window of Steve Madden in Shangri-La all,  it was sometime in the end of February this year if I am not mistaken. We admired it and I tried it on, It looks pretty on the shelf and even more so when worn.  It is almost close to the ten thousand pesos. I was smitten. Kei liked it too. But we didn’t buy it instantly, because we might see something better for a lower price.

And we came to regret that decision after.

This is the beauty we almost lost.

wedding shoes layout

It is a nude/champagne strappy platform sandal embellished with a lot of crystal rhinestones. I loved that it looks fancy for a photo shoot, and also covers the veins in my feet. It has a platform, so it’s stable and comfy to walk with, and the color of the shoe really goes well with my skin tone.

We vowed to get the shoe after two weeks. So, fast forward to two weeks after, we returned to Shangri-La Mall to purchase the said shoe. But to our dismay the shoe has a huge chocolate stain on the back.

I thought they must have a new stock or, we can order another from them… But we were met with a sad NO from the shopkeepers. Apparently Stores Specialists Inc. only gets some items in a limited quantity to be sold in their “elite” stores, there would be no guarantee that they would get the same shoe, or that you can find the same shoe in their other stores. I was aghast. We offered to pay in advance to order a new one. Still the answer is NO.

I was crestfallen. It is time to move on and look for another shoe.

And so we looked. We found pretty shoes from Badgley Mischka from Sm Aura and Rustans, BCBG Max Azaria at Glorietta and Shangri-La , Nine West at Sm Megamall.

fancy shoes

All pretty, on the same price range. But it is not the shoe. My veins on the feet are popping on full display wearing these shoes.

I was planning to find the shoe online and getting it shipped from the US. But it was unfortunately out of stock.

I gave up. I cried about the shoes.

Five months later, we saw the shoe again. This time in Robinson’s Mall Manila! Kei excitedly pointed it out to me and in a daze, we walked toward the store. I hurriedly asked for my size. They have it!

is this real?!

Is this real?! Its the shoe we are looking for!

While I was trying it on and we confirmed that it was indeed the same shoe we seen/wanted before, Kei proceeded to pay for the shoes. We were met with a pleasant surprise! The exact shoes are now on a lower price, from almost 10 to almost 7. It was a huge difference.

In the end we are thankful that we got the shoe and got it for a lower price. We just did not appreciate the time in between seeing the shoe and getting the shoe.

We celebrated by getting a huge bowl of Mongolian rice after.

Thank you very much Kei. ❤

*All my reviews, opinions, and other stuff expressed here are our own and based on our own experience. This is not a sponsored post. Kei paid for the shoes.

**We conclude that the best place to search for evening/bridal shoes is at Shangri-La Mall as they have a lot of shoe selections.

***As per Chinese tradition the groom to be buys his bride to be the shoes to be used for their wedding. The bride to be then reciprocates the gesture by buying shoes for the mother of the groom to be.
