munching through the midweek

Its no secret that Kei and I love being a couch potato, and there is no better time to be one than now. Because holidays are the perfect excuse to sleep through the alarm and go about marathon watching my favorite series on Netflix, and just this week we got I-flix too.

We really enjoy watching Netflix’s Dynasty

But if you were to make me choose, I still prefer Netflix. Because I am pretty much hooked into Netflix’x Dynasty that is based from a 1980’s series of the same name. *I have never seen the 1980’s one.  We also still enjoy watching Riverdale and Designated Survivor.

Another thing we also do when watching our favorite series is we go all out! I cook tacos, pasta or any food that we both love for dinner. We also stock up on our favorite eats and even go as far as running off to the nearest coffee shop to buy a drink. *Peppermint everything! -More so that the holidays are just around the corner. I am fond of peppermint.  It is like having a cozy midweek date night at home.

Our favorites this holiday season.  From left: Yellow Tail Pink Moscato, Starbucks Christmas Tree Peppermint Mocha -or if we cannot go out we have Owl instant white coffee with peppermint, Lamb Weston Potato wedges that I pop in the airfryer for a “guilt free” version, and Tostitos that we dip into the creamy spinach dip!

We look forward to it every Thursday (the day all the series I mentioned here have new episodes).  Kind of like a pick-me-up in the middle of the week and motivation to get it through (deadline) Friday, till the happy days of the weekend.

cheap update

There are times that I pride myself in being frugal and then there are times that I just buy without much thought because the item is on SALE. There are those I get that is a really good buy and there are those that I ask myself what was I thinking?!

I usually love sale clothing. This is the latest sale item I got.

I blame my sister for dragging me inside the shop

clementine top I got from the plains and prints purple sale

I hate you Plains and Prints (but in a good way) you always seem to have one item I like in your store. Why? Yellow is not really a favorite of mine, but I got it because it looks happy and blindingly bright, its on sale.

Anything below 500php that is on sale, will always draw me in. Even better if its below 300php.

With that thought, I also love checking out H&M’s sale items for the home. Again, I don’t buy full price.

The latest I got from them was a grey glass vase that I still don’t know why I got it and where to place it. I just kept it in the cabinet.

the vase looks a lot like what I got, it set me back 200php. I did not get the mercury glass candle holder.

While in their store I always check out their throw pillow covers. But I still haven’t bought any. I also had my eye on their mercury glass candle holders. But I know I can find something that looks alike for cheaper that their sale price. I’m a cheapskate. I know.

Table wares are also one of my favorite stuff. I recently paid a visit to Crate and Barrel and snapped up these sale items.  To pair with what I currently have.

I already had two botanica plates one in green and one in blue that we use daily. (we also got it on 50% off sale) Its about 109php each I think.

the more the many-er!

the more the many-er!

Since it is still on sale, I got two more botanica plates this time in red. To add to my red Corelle set that we are keeping for the holidays. Our Corelle set is a set of four and we have a 6 seater dining so we had to make two mismatched sets to go with it. Turns out the botanica plates are much darker than my Corelle, but its ok. It can work.

When we started decorating our home one of the first décor we had was a white ceramic ears up rabbit that we also got on sale from Crate and Barrel.

This time, we saw its ears down rabbit partner! On sale! So we got it too!

After all everything is better with a discount, am I right?!

been stalking

I have been stalking a dress.

store

Plains and Prints Robinsons Manila

That dress! The one Anne Curtis is wearing. I saw that huge poster around the last few days of November.

Asked for the said dress. It was still unavailable.

So, I bide my time waiting for the dress… went to different malls to look for it. Nothing.

Kei suggested we try looking at Shangri-la Mall. (this mall seems to have most of the stuff we are looking for) So we went.

We learned that the dress I want is is named Tokushima, from the Modern Metropolis collection. A limited edition and is already sold out.

So with no Tokushima dress on sight I looked for the other dresses from their Modern Metropolis collection. Two caught my eye. The Johannesburg and Moscow.

Tried them on and got the Johannesburg, as Kei likes it better than the other.

So, off I went, happy to get a dress. But I still wanted to see and try on the Tokushima.

Not one to give up, I tried calling all the branches of their store to look for the coveted dress. Again I was told that it is a limited edition, and apparently they made 50pcs for their preview, and another 50 was distributed to the other stores. Only 100 dresses are made. Tokushima was only made in sizes s, and xs.

My chances are slim. Only one Tokushima dress is left. In xs (my size!) and it is reserved.

Arrrggghhhh! Oh well, but still hopeful …we left our number. In case the one who reserved it did not get the dress.

After a day we got a call from Plains and Prints Greenbelt. It is now reserved to me!

Along with Kei we went to get the Tokushima.  Once in my hands I was a bit surprised that the Tokushima is not white but a pale shade of lilac grey. (was fooled by the posters!) But I like lilac. So it is not a problem for me. I went on to fit the dress and it did fit nicely.

The attendants also wanted me to try on their Madrid dress.

Madrid was the one they kept recommending to me when they learned that I was looking for the Tokushima. I liked the color of madrid but it looks poofy on me. When I tried it on, I look shorter than the usual so, even if its pretty, its a no for me.

I got the Tokushima. Finally.

I got two dresses. The Johannesburg from Shangrila in the medium sized orange box with three ponds freebies inside! And the Tokushima from Greenbelt in the small green box.

*Price?  1898php per dress.

A breather

Halfway done with the initial wave of workload. Thank God.  Have a bit of time right now. Expecting the next wave as soon as the last week of November maybe? Anyway, I am thankful.

That brings me to planning my yearly Christmas tradition…planning my list. This is the time I usually send the wishlist to those who are in the list. Yes. I am O.C. like that. I wanted to get the people who matter to me a present they would use/like. So, far I have ideas for a few, for the others, I still need to find stuff they would love.

Speaking of Christmas presents… Mason Jars are apparently “it thing” right now. First saw them popping out on Pinterest then a visit to a cute cupcake bakery got me looking for those mason jars in the Philippines. (I got mine shipped, from a college friend.)

This could be a really cute Christmas gift paired with some marshmallows and hot chocolate (this will be my staple holiday gift for 2014)!

These are our mason jars! *brought our mugs to Starbucks to get better mug photos.

So once I have finished dealing with my nefarious workload… it is off to Christmas shopping! Think happy thoughts!

first things first

I am going to camp! (Thanks to Kei for my sponsorship!)

And this is going to be my first camp experience ever!  excited much?! I am, so much that I even volunteered to design the poster below.

the SSP-Zion Fellowship retreat poster I made.

the SSP-Zion Fellowship retreat poster

This will be on July 27-28 (Sunday to Monday). We were actually hoping that July 28 will be declared a holiday. But,  apparently, Eid’l Fitr holiday for this year falls on July 29 (a Tuesday). Oh well, I must pass a leave form and do advance work to keep up. Manageable and with time for adjustment! perfect!

Major plus that it will be held in Tagaytay! where the climate is cooler! I can escape metro manila’s oven like temperature. Hooray!

Its been ages since our last church outing. So, I’m thankful to have this opportunity to be with my brothers and sisters in Christ. Our topic for this retreat is apt for us working people, because sometimes our priorities are warped and we still don’t realize it. First things first! I usually claim to be organized and all but, I really fail this one from time to time. I must learn and learn till this is natural. Must improve the quality of my relationship with God.

A few more days to go!

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. -Matthew 6:33

cynicism

Cynicism-is an attitude or state of mind characterized by a general distrust of others’ apparent motives or ambitions, or a general lack of faith or hope in the human race or in individuals with desires, hopes, opinions, or personal tastes that a cynic perceives as unrealistic or inappropriate, therefore deserving of ridicule or admonishment. It is a form of jaded negativity, and other times, realistic criticism or skepticism. The term originally derives from the ancient Greek philosophers called the Cynics who rejected all conventions, whether of religion, manners, housing, dress, or decency, advocating the pursuit of virtue in accordance with a simple and idealistic way of life. (meaning taken from wikipedia)

The thing that annoys me more then people who only call me when they need something…is the fake smile and conversation before they ask. I absolutely hate it.

See, today a lot of people are missing at work, not that its wrong but it is really a weird phenomenon that leaves the workplace in a difficult position. Usually I am asked/tasked/forced to cover for those who are absent/sick/on a vacation/insert whatever reason here, but I absolutely hate it due to the fact that they don’t even try to make things easier for you.

Game of Throne’s Sansa Stark

I feel so helpless when the “higher” ups decides to pay me a visit on my desk with their cheery and commanding voice, that tells me “hey, insert-name-here is out so can you cover for him?” I have given up my Independence day ( and some other holidays) to cover for the absence of those people, on my regular days I skip/rush my afternoon break to help out,  and on my half day of work, you still want me to work whole day?

“Not today, I have somewhere to go.”   I answer.

Then I get half a minute of “because we lack people that is why we have to call on anyone who can fill in.” in a no more cheery/slightly annoyed/still commanding voice.  I fight the urge to talk back, and with dead malice, I just smile.

It pays to have willpower. That’s very important in this world, because if someone had talked/fought back they’d be dead.
