collected and comfy

One of my favorite pastimes is to look at other people’s houses (on blogs) at the internet, I look at them for fun and inspiration. I like looking at how others decorate their place and their lifestyle.

But my personal favorites are those quirky homes/apartments that have a lot of character that doesn’t look like it just brought a whole showcase from the store or grabbed everything from pinterest. Because who the hell does that?! Common people do not live like that.

Therefore it has been my mission to style my home with practicality, and without breaking the bank. I source items that are practical and useful and also adhere to the “style” I wanted to create. I still believe that style isn’t expensive, but it does take thought and time. *ie, in looking for items for home I really stick to my guns and look for blues, greens or anything that will complement the items I have at home if there is none then I don’t buy. I have an assortment of plastic items (I have my balde and tabo in green and blue of course!), metal shelf, bargain stuff (daiso items) and even some local/native and hand me down items.

So this time I am sharing my real life home style – including items that I use and can be found in my home.

ecclectic modern tropical

welcome to our eclectic modern tropical home

Collected and comfy was my guiding principle in creating our home style. We worked around with the existing green bathroom on our home and build up around it. I used a calming analogous color scheme of blues and greens to create a cool and calm feel on our home. I got very much excited with creating the color palette as you can see above. I even added plants to make the home more inviting.

Every day has enough challenges, so it’s worth it to splurge on some of the items we use most, like a good smelling hand soap, or a cup of coffee…etc. Its about the little things that make everyday living less of a bore.

We usually have friends over so the most used area in our place is the dining and living. I made sure to get decent throw pillows, table ware, extra seating (in our color) some fun matching place mats and a picture frame that we personalized with a quote and our wifi passord! That simple frame got a lot of compliments. Because sometimes its the effort that counts.

Not bad right? To think most of our stuff are brought on sale!

While our home style continues to evolve and change what I love most about my home is:

It is my comfy place, the place where I can be myself.

The one I share it with.  ❤

some ee-kay-uh stuff

I said on a earlier post that there is no Ikea to be found, and that I sort of wish that they were available in the Philippines. I take that back.

There is a store that sells Ikea products in the Philippines. That we accidentally found out through our good friend Bart.

Earlier this week Bart phoned us and told us that she is going furniture hunting and asked us if we wanted to come with her. She is off to hunt for a couch that she has been eyeing for a while now. Bart is quite savvy when it comes to home furnishings and we are always happy to go with her on home furnishing hunts. We always learn something new.  So we readily agreed to go.

This couch is the reason for our trip.

Pretty right? But wait till you get to know how the couch works.

The two/three seater couch transforms into a five seater. Then a bed. Amazeballs.

So off we go and found it easily on Furniture Source.

we went to the furniture source

But we waited for more than 45 mins to be entertained and another 20 or more mins to check color availability and order. Service was slow and could be improved. Bart got the couch in the lightest grey color.

We waited for a long time. Since it is a furniture store with a lot of people it sure is cramped in there.

But it was ok-ish because we got it on sale.

So while waiting Kei and I looked around and saw this shoe cabinet. We thought it is perfect for our home-because it is compact and can fit in the space behind the door. (To hide our shoes and maximize our floor space.)

We got the 3 layer one in brown. Thankfully on sale too.

Even with the cramped space and slow service, we have to admit that their furniture (all Ikea) are perfect for the modern home. – having a large space is a luxury now, so we all need smaller furniture that also “multitask” and save up precious space.

Kei and I also looked at their bookshelves but in the end opted not to buy ready made but get one custom built. *space constraints and preference issues*

So now we all wait for the delivery.

We will sure be back! I had my eye on some lighting fixtures and cabinets they have.

Hopefully we get faster service by then.

*Also, we all kept on saying “eye-kee-ah” but apparently we are all wrong. It is pronounced as “ee-kay-uh.” Just found that out after we brought the items and googled it at home.

pop friday

I was chatting up with a friend of mine (Kristoff) when I noticed a bb8 figure sitting on his desk. I immediately asked about it and found out that he is also into funko pops! So we chatted some more and shared our pop wishlist /pops we think are awesome/what we like to have..etc. the chat lasted more than an hour. And pops have been cropping up on our conversation each time we got a chance to talk.

We talk about our own pops and where we got them. Recommended stores and stores that are overpriced, other friends that also collects pops…stuff like that.

This collection is NOT mine, I just found the photo on the internet

Today, he declared that it was a Pop Friday. I liked the sound of that. Apparently he is hunting for funko pops (online) today. Some of what he likes are unknown to me. He knows what I wanted to collect GOT and Marvel. –he doesn’t watch GOT. So mostly we agree on marvel and some awesome looking stuff from Star Wars, some exclusive expensive piece or DC.

Also online Kei and I are hunting for a toy box subscription. And promptly managed to secure one. The wait begins.

we are on a pre-order list for Spiderman. Kei

As for me, I am just happy if I can find some of the older Game of Thrones funko pops. I regret not getting into the toys earlier. Most of what I wanted is not available in stores or if I do find one it is very much overpriced. Any ideas? leads or help would be very much appreciated.

How I wish pops are cheap or free or readily available. Kei and I am even lemming for a nice shelf to “house” my (very) few pops and some of our books. Crazy, I know.

We don't have Ikea in the Philippines, but this bookcase is sure pretty! My dream bookcase-photo from the internet

A happy geeky home must have happy looking toys on display. Am I right?! Maybe someday I get a shelf full of toys.

Fingers crossed I get to find pops that I am looking for to fill my imaginary shelf. Off to a geeky weekend toy hunt.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!
