looking at the stars

One of our (my best friend and I) childhood dreams was to become an astronaut. We spent hours looking up our small terrace balcony to look at stars, where we look for our own tiny blue star we fondly named “twinkle”.

Stars and the night sky was something we bonded over. That was before we were told that aerospace studies did not exist in our country. We know nothing. And promptly forgot that childhood dream as we grew up and got busy-er.

Also, have you seen the movie Hidden Figures? I have just recently seen it and was in awe of all the geniuses behind NASA.

So with the news of the planetarium’s reopening got to us, we sure wanted to go. Braving the unforgiving summer sun we lined up for the free show. It was entertaining and informative.

Left-the show we watched. Right-the lines are crazy! – we waited for 2 hours.

While waiting for our turn, I cant help but to look at the planetarium’s doors.

found your sign?

Very much distinctive. After the planetarium show, we went off to cool ourselves at the mall and eat quite a lot because we missed lunch.

Of course Kei accompanied us!

Not our usual mall stroll on a weekend but it was a nice change of scene.

hot weather

I feel the rise in the temperature, summer is here! -a few more days  and I am out of the office!

right after Kei’s haircut and shopping for summer stuff.

Kei got a haircut, summer shirts, flipflops and a summer hats are brought. we are so ready to go out and have a dip in the pool!

Pepper is wearing my hat, ready for the summer sun.

We still do not have anywhere in particular to go to for the (extended) holy weekend– we are winging it this year. But, I stocked up on the usual sachet packets for a lightweight bag.

sachet galore! the only thing missing is the soap. -I usually bring the current soap I use.

A good find that I got for summer is the Dermplus spf130 sachet. I have used the brand last summer too and happy to say no sunburns!

adding a few not so DIY stuff to the home

Behind the couch table.

Have you ever heard of that? Thanks to Pinterest, I have. And I wanted one so that I can get a “display” table and some much needed extra space/storage for books. It looks so pretty and it is a great alternative to those without a lot of floor space to have a coffee table in the middle of the sofa set.

the ones I have been eyeing at Pinterest

Since then I have pestered Kei to draw a “plan” for the said table. Sure this will not be a DIY-since we dont have the woodworking skills and tools, but I wanted to get a close to accurate shop drawing with measurements so that it would be easier for the one making the table. Less margin for error.

Also wanted the table to have electrical outlets on both ends so we can charge phones, place a lamp…etc.

Kei’s initial drawing of our behind the couch table -We went on to modify the drawer part.

Once we have the drawing it is off to the furniture shop. It took about three weeks before it arrived, right before Christmas. It was huge.

Freshly delivered -we still have to find faceplate for the outlet. Our little tree fits right on the side!

Then the holidays came and we got busy and forgot about “decorating” the table, until now. We sorted out our books, bought some basic bookends and placed them on the table. We also moved our ceramic bunnies from the dining table to this ‘behind the couch’ table. They now guard our books. Freeing up much needed space in the dining table.

Next would be looking for lamps to be the accent piece. Just last weekend, we found it.

Minimalist arc table lamps with edison bulbs.

Looking good on and off! So after a long while, the living room is looking a bit more homey/cozy.

our sofa as of the moment

We can still fit some decorative items in! -a few picture frames on the table would be good & maybe something huge for the wall would be nice in the future.

Any suggestions for wall decor? That is all about our small home improvement for now. Till the next.

grey and yellow

I never thought about it that much but apparently I have been wearing the “grey shirt” daily. Not the same shirt of course but the same color.

All grey, even my bed sheets are grey. *I think I have 3 more grey shirts are in the laundry basket.

Discovered it as I was sort of tidying my perpetually messy closet. Seems like I have outgrown my happy bright colored shirts, thanks to me getting fat.-Not that I am complaining. This is reason enough to get more clothes/shirts.

Hence all the grey shirts. I dig my grey shirts, they are simple, neutral, inconspicuous and as long as the fabric is soft and comfy, I am good. They sort of became my personal work uniform. I do not have to worry about what to put on in the morning and how they look – I just toss on what is in my cabinet. Will just worry about what to wear on the weekends. Saving me time for the daily commute to work.

Also freeing up some precious morning time for my gardening efforts. On that part, the marigolds are in bloom again!

like drops of sunshine!

The flowers look so bright and happy. Summer is here!

weekend recap

This is how we spent valentines season. Because 1 day ain’t enough, and because we celebrate the day later longer than most people do.

our valentines 2017 in a photo

our valentines 2017 in a photo

I started by being a bit early (Feb 8) and delivered chocolates and a single rose (made of soap) to surprise my best friend Jo, that ended with a fast food dinner.

On the day itself (Feb 14) Kei surprised me by giving me a small strawberry cake from the Breadery -I have no photo of the cake as I ate it all. Plus a dress from Zalora. In turn I gave Kei a cute Altec Lansing speaker to replace his old mini speaker that lost its cable.

Saturday (Feb 18) I took Kei out to go see John Wick 2, since he mentioned it too many times. But before going back home Kei gave me 3 sampaguita plants to add to my potted plant collection. -I will have flowers all year round, he says. I am looking forward to the day the buds bloom. Hopefully I can keep them alive. Ended the day with a dimsum dinner at a place near home and called it a day.

Sunday is for both our families, we dropped by their place to give them cakes. Then capped off the weekend with a hearty dinner at Torch.

So that was our valentine 2017. How did you spend yours?

travesty all over

Happy to report that I have been “healthy” eating a lot since I got market greens from Baguio.

I have made strawberry shrimp salad. Aka Pammy approved salad-that means its not exactly that healthy since I used quite a lot of butter on the shrimp.

I also made Sagada orange salad from Jo’s Sagada oranges.

Also cooked deep fried oyster mushrooms! -This is so yums! (obviously not healthy.)

After finishing off all the Baguio greens we got, it is time for CNY (Chinese New Year). Of course it is not CNY if we are not pigging out. *I am always pigging out.

And because it is not a family gathering without family drama, I had loads and loads of drama. I think I had enough for a year, or five years even. That makes me very wary paranoid of family gatherings. Being made to feel inadequate by someone who turns out to be a hypocrite -is something that I could definitely do without. Maybe next year I will go hermit.

But not all is dour. My geraniums from Baguio that I thought would never thrive in Manila actually bloomed quite a lot even after subjecting it to stress due to travelling! -It adapted well to the warmer climate.

My "stars and stripes" geranium from Baguio. My bestie Jo also got these.

For now I will be seeking refuge from my tiny patio garden. Till the next post.

made it

Happy to have successfully hosted a Friendsgiving! -Main goal being to introduce our good friends to our other good friends. And bonding with our friends that are “family” to us before everybody gets too busy with the holiday season.

I am happy to note that everybody “mixed” well!

But due to my being busy having too much fun, I only have two measly photos. (sorry, no posting as both photos are group photos) It was a whole day of feast and games.

With a bit of twist into the traditional thanksgiving menu we came up with this.

kkklkmnnmnm,

As you can see this was a group thing. -On the bottom is our house logo. Yes, it is really meant to echo Pancake House! as our “loveteam name” sounds like pancake.

That was our spread. We also played quite a lot of monopoly deal.

game on

game on

Right after lunch we played monopoly deal all the way till 7. Only stopping to have snacks, wine and coffee. There were a lot of laughs, stories and friendly banter.

We also had a new game to add to our game collection, care of our friend Stephen.

a new addition to our games.

a new addition to our games

While we never played it yet, this will be a good game to play on the next “game day” at home.

Thankful to have a “wonderful family of friends” to be with us in our lives. We sure are blessed.
