The 3Bubwits – character design & merchandizing

The 3 Bubwits was the characters I created for The Manila Bulletin’s Funpage. Their look was based on me and my Siblings on our childhood days. They are basically us.bubwit main

Pammy is the kid with the two ponytails, the only boy is Timo and Nikka is the one with the single ponytail. The bubwits also have pets, a squirell named Squik, and two rabbits Cotton -the white one and Pudding -the brown one.

I honestly did not know that Bubwit is another way to say mouse in Filipino! My mom picked the ‘Bubwit’ name. She said it was catchy and makes her think of something cute or small, she really does call us her three bubwits! Being based on us, its fitting to call the characters Bubwits. Three simple kids and siblings The 3Bubwits are very much relatable to kids.

The Bubwits debuted as a “spot the difference” feature. And has been a staple on the section as well as on corporate giveaways, to bring the Bubwits to a wider audience. The most recognized is the yearly datebook.

The datebook also features colorful illustrations inside.

well, I am DIY-ing my beads

While I wanted to add colored metal to my Pandora bracelet, I cannot shell out 9k plus for just one (1) solid gold Pandora spacer. Its just ridiculous.

taken from Pandora’s website

I really like the twisted design though… and I wanted it in solid gold. Not like the new gold plated beads (Pandora Shine) that Pandora recently introduced.

So, after some thought, I had a pair of gold spacers custom made. It took quite some time for trial and error, because I had one made and used it to cast the other.  I also used the old gold of my childhood earring to be recycled to add to my spacers.

my childhood earrings

While it is NOT from Pandora. I got good value for my money. Because instead of the initial plan of getting the spacers in 14k I had it made into 18K. And got the (2) pair for the price of 14,500php! -kind of like getting one 18k gold spacer for 7,250php that is still cheaper than one 14k spacer from Pandora. Its a good deal. And for the reveal… here are my custom made 18k solid gold spacers!  They might look small, but surprisingly they have a feel of weight to it.

My 18k gold twist spacers

So why did I choose to get 18k?

Gold is measured in karats. This unit of measurement tells us the percentage of gold in a piece. 18K gold (which is 75% gold) is the traditional mix of gold and other alloys, and it lends itself to making beautiful jewelry. This karat amount is less expensive than 24K but is very commonly used in fine jewelry making. Its coloring is a softer yellow than the deeper yellow of 24 karat, but the soft golden tone of the 18k is much more desirable in comparison to the paler 14K coloring.

To demonstrate the color here is a photo of 14k and 18k.

see the color difference?

The most common type of gold used in jewelry in the U.S. is 14K and it was created to make a gold piece more affordable, at the expense of having less gold. This karat amount contains 58.3% gold, and similar to 18K, its strength is a good fit for rings and bracelets to necklaces and earrings.  14K was selected for a simple reason though… it is because it is just over half gold.  In addition to less gold and a smaller price, 14K tends to have less of a yellow color relative to 18K or higher.

Here is another photo in a different light.

On hand – the 14k pales in comparison to the 18k spacer.

And the beauty of getting solid gold is that should I get tired of the spacers I could get it melted and made into another trinket.

My bracelet is now looking a bit put together and is now obviously looking two toned! I still haven’t decided if I am going to get clips. But right now I am pretty pleased with how it looks. I might add another pair of spacers once I decided if I wanted gold or go with rose gold for variation. I am very much indecisive, I know! If I could I would get all the stuff I like. I am limited only because I have budget to consider. Hahahaha! Help me decide?

two toned and loving it!

After all I still have a lot of room to spare on my bracelet. What do you think of my custom made spacers? Let me know your thoughts.

*All my reviews, opinions, and other stuff expressed here are my own and based on my own experience with the product. This is not a sponsored post, I paid for this (from) my own pocket.

a peep

Days had gone by so fast! It’s already mid January and I still feel like it was just Christmas yesterday. The holidays were a blur, time goes by so fast. I am already back at work and is already working  on my usual deadlines.

On resolutions… I will try my best to shun negativity from life and focus on the good. After all life is short, we all deserve to be happy.

*I was pleasantly surprised that I still get messages/questions regarding my wedding that was two years ago. I am thankful that my readers value my opinion. –it means a lot to me thanks!

munching through the midweek

Its no secret that Kei and I love being a couch potato, and there is no better time to be one than now. Because holidays are the perfect excuse to sleep through the alarm and go about marathon watching my favorite series on Netflix, and just this week we got I-flix too.

We really enjoy watching Netflix’s Dynasty

But if you were to make me choose, I still prefer Netflix. Because I am pretty much hooked into Netflix’x Dynasty that is based from a 1980’s series of the same name. *I have never seen the 1980’s one.  We also still enjoy watching Riverdale and Designated Survivor.

Another thing we also do when watching our favorite series is we go all out! I cook tacos, pasta or any food that we both love for dinner. We also stock up on our favorite eats and even go as far as running off to the nearest coffee shop to buy a drink. *Peppermint everything! -More so that the holidays are just around the corner. I am fond of peppermint.  It is like having a cozy midweek date night at home.

Our favorites this holiday season.  From left: Yellow Tail Pink Moscato, Starbucks Christmas Tree Peppermint Mocha -or if we cannot go out we have Owl instant white coffee with peppermint, Lamb Weston Potato wedges that I pop in the airfryer for a “guilt free” version, and Tostitos that we dip into the creamy spinach dip!

We look forward to it every Thursday (the day all the series I mentioned here have new episodes).  Kind of like a pick-me-up in the middle of the week and motivation to get it through (deadline) Friday, till the happy days of the weekend.

yey and nay

Kei managed to install the wall mirror in our dining area. Good and not so good… the upside is the space looks bigger, the bad is on some angles it reflects our messy kitchen as well as our makeshift clothesline (rainy season quick fix) in our laundry area. -We have to live with that for the meantime until we manage to decorate the area.

We really need to speed up getting our home a display cabinet – our Game of thrones Funko pop collection is taking over more than half of our living room wall, as well as “clean up” our mess-y area in the kitchen. – We are short on a proper display cabinet/kitchen storage/and too many small kitchen appliances for our tiny space. How to do that, I still don’t know. If our budget would allow, hopefully we can make these home improvements before the year ends.

our GOT funko pop collection as of the moment

*The GOT pop collection is still growing, they will have two more additions by the weekend.

Another good and not so good would be my fall beauty finds.

beauty-fall?!

I love, love, love the colors of my Colorpop After Hours super shock eye shadows. While I really love the scent of My Burberry edp -and it took me quite a long while to get one, my skin eats it up. So, i’m in the hunt for a fall fragrance.

contents of the colorpop after hours eye shadow kit

Back to the one I do love, the Colorpop After Hours super shock shadow kit is versatile! it can be used to create soft neutral effect or a dramatic look. It contains six beautiful colors namely: Super Hard Core (gold shade), DGAF (a rusty brown with lots of glitter), Wattles (beige pink), Amaze (peachy gold), Sailor (beige), Drift (cranberry red). I think it is perfect for creating the trending cranberry/maroon eye look for fall!- without being too much. Or leave the red shade (drift) for a more neutral look.

And because I like it very much I wanted to get more! So imagine my delight when I saw that Colorpop is having a buy 2 take 1 promo on their super shock shadows! -I googled reviews from Temptalia to look the the best ones to get, and composed a list. Only to be disappointed that when I was about to order, the promo has ended. Just my luck or maybe the universe is telling me to chill for a bit. Anyhow, till the next post!

sprouts

After a week or two and some days more… we have this. The seeds gotten from the supermarket are now seedlings!

vinca sprouts

They stay in full sun, and watered once every two days -I am controlling the amount of water they get. *since our weather seems to be sunny in the mornings with afternoon showers. The zinnias also have sprouted but they are still so little- will be posting once they grow a bit bigger. *I planted them a week after the vincas* I’m excited for these to grow and add some color to my patio!

start of BER

I’m back. Back to gardening and home posts that is.

Since my mobile network connection was shot, I turned to gardening…

hopefully these will live and flower to add color to our patio

Found these seed packets on the supermarket and have managed to germinate the vinca seeds in 1 week. Hopefully the zinnias I planted yesterday would germinate too. Live long and prosper plants!

On the home front we are still slowly working on making our place feel more like us, in terms of decor. -Since its already September its just a matter of time before Christmas is here again and we are always having guests over, we are starting to look for additions/decorations for our place.

Being small space/city dwellers like us, we are constantly looking for ways to make our small space seem bigger. A well known trick is to use mirrors to open up the space as they give the illusion of a larger space.  We are pretty keen on doing just that to our dining area because we do not have any windows there.

We were going for something that gives this effect. But on a smaller scale. -Photo from the internet

It’s a good thing that we chanced upon Crate and Barrel’s sale last week and managed to snag this beautiful charcoal arched mirror designed by Blake Tovin.  It has a subtle curve that makes it look like a (cottage) window and yet the mirror still looks looks every-bit modern with its clean lines.

Crate and Barrel Arch mirror in charcoal -the exact mirror we got and have yet to hang.

We are hanging it up by our dining table just like in the inspiration photo. Maybe this coming weekend we would be able to mount it on the wall. The delay in hanging up the mirror was because we have some OCD issues freshened up the paint at home last weekend, right after we got the mirror.

How was the start of your ber months?

^update, My mobile connection is now ok. finally. =)

blindspot

It has been a while since I last posted. Have been blindsided by events lately. I lost my fairly new phone (I only had the phone for a month) to a pickpocket. While I was really sad to have lost it, I also feel thankful that we were not harmed. So that was that.

Kei got me a new phone but I still have no mobile network connection. I feel so disconnected.

With the rainy days, I am also in no mood to do stuff. I just hole up and recently I have been engrossed in watching the series Blindspot.

Then there was a fire near our place early this week that caused me to panic. Thank God for the volunteer firefighters.

And that is what I get with August… I cannot wait for the better months to come.

Calling it

I am sure by now you have seen the latest episode of Game of Thrones. ( I meant season 7 episode2) That was it, I am sure Greyworm is going to have something major happen to him this season.  That makes me really happy that I recently snagged a Greyworm pop. -before prices soar, and the pop becomes rare.

hello Greyworm!

Also, I was surprised to see two GOT pops in the 2017SDCC lineup!-It was not announced!!!

the two GOT funko in 2017 SDCC

It included a black Night King and The Mountain in armor! I already have the regular Night King, so I am not going to get the black version. But the Mountain in armor, I had to track it down. *I honestly never cared for the character and the first Mountain pop they released, but this armored version IMHO is way better than the first.

My collection needs this!

After a quick phone call to our “favorite” toy shop in Greenhills. We have the armored mountain on preorder. Sure it is a bit more expensive but still, we would love to have that on our collection.

This would be the second exclusive pop in my collection after the nycc2015 Iron Throne.

Now we wait for the toys.

winter came

Our favorite series is back! I watched Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere last night and I cannot wait for the next episode!!! excited much?!

So, I will not spoil the show in case you haven’t seen it yet.  I am here to update my Game of Thrones Funko Pop collection.

My GOT pop wishlist! -only a few more.

Right before the season 7 premiere, Kei and I went on a pop haul in Greenhills. Getting 4 pops in one go. We have Night King, Grey Worm, Margaery Tyrell, and Stannis Baratheon. We took the chance to buy now before the price shoots up.

our haul!

Well technically we got 5, four GOT pops and a freebie. We got a Marvel pop as the freebie- a Yellow jacket to be with our Ant man.

The feeling when looking for new Pops -Looking to the east, looking to the west, looking to the south, looking to the north… We will find the Pops. *A parody on Cersei’s  “Enemies to the east, enemies to the west, Enemies to the south, enemies to the north. Whatever stands in our way, we will defeat it.”*

We saw Tywin Lannister but it was priced at 750php so that could wait. Petyr Baelish was nowhere to be found.

I have 2 pops (Tormund Giantsbane- to pair with my Brienne of Tarth, and Cersei Lannister- the one with the crown) on pre-order from my cousin Jacky in the US. Pretty excited for these two.

Still wishing that they create a new version of Sansa Stark in the new garb!

calling Funko! please create a (red head/badass) Sansa Stark pop!

Still looking for a decently priced Joffrey Baratheon and Ned Stark though. Any leads?
